I totally disagree. I think that doctor is superb. I walked in there one
day, told him I wanted valium (for stress), xanax (for sleeping) and
Tylenol 3 with Codeine (for back pain). Thirty minutes later I had a bag
of "legal" goodies that I can renew any time I want.
Most Korean doctors wouldn't dream of giving people a Codeine based
medication. And I'm talking of fractures in hospital bone wards.

He did diagnose my pneumonia correctly.
He had me go straight to Yonsei hospital. |

The doc in Itaewon provided me with a prescrip for extremely specialized medication that no other doctor I went to see would. I realize this doesn't make him Dr. Schweitzer, but he was extremely helpful when other doctors couldn't be bothered. |

They are highly overpriced there, and he does give out mental drugs like candy. When I lived near there, I was helping a friend paint a house, along with 4 other random people. We all started discussion depression, and I shit you not, 3 of the 5 people (they were all foreigners) in that house were taking the same anti-depressant drug from that guy. I can't remember the name. |

It's hilarious though how he presses propecia and other baldness treatments given his (unusual for a Korean man) chrome dome.

I too thought it was interesting that he called Propecia "the greatest thing on the market" with such a large hair issue himself. |

Generally, he is a good diagnostician, especially if you come prepared with questions and review literature on the internet. Testing is more expensive than other clinics, however, is usually more thorough. Overall, he is up to date on many treatments and medical issues (can't say other doctors I have attended to in Korea have been-even Yonsei, Samsung, and Seoul National hospitals).
Althought, be wary of the little padded scams. When receiving your bill, he often adds medication from his clinic that is completely unapplicable to your condition (e.g. asthma pills, Duolac-stomach medication, etc.). His vitamin store is highly expensive, and often recommended when not essential.
Be proactive and research your general practitioners diagnosis (especially serious ones). He has been very personable to my wife and refered her to her ob/gyn when needed.

You think the International Clinic sucks? Try the University Hospital in Hannam Dong. They refused to see me with a cracked skull. I didn't have my insurance info when I went in there, with blood leaking all over my shirt. They said they couldn't see me with my ARC, because their "system was down," so I sat and waited there for my boss to arrive and when he did, their system was "up and running again." |

he sure does. i hate to admit it but that's the reason i went to see him. i ran out of a prescription and i had to pick up some more, and i didn't want a doctor that would talk at me for ages. i personally found it to be really cheap with my med insurance |

Now there is a record on your med insurance of you taking mental drugs. |

A consultation without medical insurance is around 35,000 won. |

was on it back home. didn't think that korea would have it, so i weaned myself off of it before i got here. It's ...manageable, but sometimes i find myself panicking in a cold sweat bc i have a bunch of kids running around jumping and i need to focus on them, and not my wandering thoughts.
does the dr give that out? |

Go to their website...you can e-mail them and ask them to quote you before you go. The nurses will e-mail you back. Definitely more expensive than other places but if you need answers and don't want mis-communication he is a good person to meet with from my experience. |

Where is this place? Is it right next to that Itaewon hotel?
I take Xanax, but my current doctor gives me only about 20 at a time. She charged me 30,000 the first visit, but then the next month, she jumped it up to 60,000. (If you live in Bundang, don't go to the shrink near Migeum Station. Forgot the name of the clinic, but she's on the third floor, in the same building where the Lotteria closed down.)
I'd rather go to this Itaewon clinic, pay around the same price and get more pills. If anyone gets their Xanax there, how many pills does he give out at a time?
Oh yeah. Sorry OP about your situation. I hope things work out the way you want them to. |
