Just wondering if anyone else's local Kimbab shop has put up their prices. Mine went from W1000 to W1500 overnight, that's a 50% increase in my breakfast expenditure. Seeing I'm in the last week of my pay cycle and broke, I'll have to take my business elsewhere.

There is a (Korean) article about the price hike here. In December I noticed that Somunnan Kimbap was raising their prices.

There was a news piece on last night about the price of food increasing. The Korean journalists used the cost of Ramyeun, Rice and Kim to highlight the increase of 12~40% increase.

This is related to the cost of buying these products to make it. They have increased due to the global recession we are having now. Wait till the exchange rates change.

I would rather be here than in the US or the UK. Smile

Korea is quickly becoming a high-cost, low-value, country.

The chaebol are nearing their ultimate goal. Their vision for years has been to sell Koreans low-quality food and goods at high prices.

The Chaebol is the collective name for all the big Korean companies. Hyundai, Samsung, Daewoo, Lotte, LG.....and so on.......they basically control Korea. All the politicians are in some way loyal, controlled or simply bribed to do their bidding. They also keep prices of the most commonly bought things nice and high and make sure to not compete with each other too much.

Read all about it...

A Chaebol is a korean multinational with fingers in many pies. Think Samsung or Hyundai. They often also have somewhat shady links with government. If memory serves correctly, wasn't LMB a former Hyundai exec with heavy corruption allegations against them.

I believe the their vision is to sell EVERYONE low-cost goods at high-prices..but to a large degree, that is just business - worldwide. Wink

The title of this thread is the greatest thing ever. I can see it on page 1 of the Times.
