What have been some bad things that you've seen on job postings?
I just saw a job posting yesterday where you make 2.1 million a month, but you work 10 1/2 hours a day. With all of the jobs out there, who would pick something that bad?
Also, I was once offered a job in Ilsan with an unusual late policy. If you're 10 minutes late, you don't get paid for that hour. If you're an hour late, you don't get paid for the whole day. (Yet, you still have to work that day.) No, I didn't accept that job. |

I saw one that said you get free toiletries when you arrive. Yeah, I get 3 dollars worth of crap that a normal person would have thought to have packed before travelling 6000 km. I guess they were looking for really poor and desperate people. Of course with college tuitions as high as they are, things are tough all over. |

That's pretty funny. I forgot; I saw a hagwon job that has 30 kids in a class. |

That's just insane. What the point of showing up for work if you are an hour late? I mean you've already lost a days wage. Do they really expect you to willfully work for free? That's just plain dumb on the employers part. What a wonderful way to encourage employees to pull a runner.
Some dumb things I seen in contracts are;
15 minute lunch breaks
Able to change vacation days with only a 24 notice
11 month contract with no severance
Boy and girls are not allowed to touch each other at all.
Must come in two Saturdays a month for meetings which are unpaid.
A free subway card
Must do telephone English with students after hours on your own phone line (of course the school pays for the line)
Vacation = 1 extra day paid off a month, which the employer will determine.
Paid holidays = Korean National holdiays |

I saw a part time kindergarden position for native speakers only, which didn't look too exciting.
20 hours a week, totalling 80 a month for 1,000,000 won a month. No accommodation, no flight, no health, no pension etc.
That works out at 12,500 won an hour. |

Most sensible people look for extra work that pays well. The less free time you have, the more valuable it becomes. |

I saw Yale in Daegu is trying to hire people for 2.3 for a 6 day work week...that's pretty bad...it might not have been bad five years ago on a 5 day work week, but hey, they do offer you a relocation allowance... meh. Not crazy bad, but considering how hard it's apparently getting to get teachers over here, they might have to do better than that. |

I still see jobs that state you have to work on Saturdays , or even worse shared apartments
One time this expat in my building ,fresh off the plane , offered me a job at his hogwon 2 pm-12 am, 2.1 ,but you only have to work 6 hours a day.
I asked him what he did w/ all the extra time time in the office .He said surf the net |

I've always considered time at work to be work time. |

When I was looking for a job back in September/October, I saw one that had the "successful" applicant living with the hagwon director! That would just be strange.
Why would anyone want to do that? |

^ sadly enough, i once read a contract under a contract thread where the housing was in the same house as the director, or maybe it was head teacher.
anyway, the person still posted it to be reviewed so they must've been considering it |
