Anyone lose a lot of weight and keep it off? How'd you do it

Agree completely laogaiguk. But I'd always think it's obvious what to cut out first. Fatty foods.

Eat the same amount but eat fresher more fibrous, less greasy food. Don't eat less. Just be more aware of what you eat. Diets don't work, a slight adjustment in eating habits, within certain boundaries, does work. Diets are crap because they suggest a short term solution. There's a ton of food out there, we've never tried that'd we'd love, and it's good for us.


I disagree (though not being argumentative Smile ). I think eating a bit less a bit every so often or so would help. When I say a bit, I mean a bit. This is assuming you are eating what the fat people I see when I go back home eating (an entire moose plus the all you can eat buffet...)

Double post.

Also, I think you actually do agree. "Eating less every so often" is much closer to an adjustment in eating habits than it is to a temporary diet.

And the first guy was right. Diets are usually harmful. People who don't know what they're doing just end up slowing down their metabolism and when they go off the diet they get fatter than they were before.

Even slight long term dietary changes will be much more beneficial.

Have twins. My wife did and I take them for a walk everyday. Pushing them around in a double stroller that has tight wheels does the trick for me Smile

Eat when you're hungry, and only then. Not when you think you're hungry, but when your body tells you you need nourishment.

Takes some time, but after a while it becomes second nature.

Another one that's working for me, and healthy in general, whenever I'm hungry the first thing I do is drink 20-40 oz of water.

Allow yourself 1 serving of meat for every 30 minutes you exercise.

IOW, if you don't exercise, than you'll become a vegetarian.

But exercise is truly key to losing weight. Its not the pounds that come off, but the desire to eat sugar lessens while the ability to metabolise it more efficiently increases.

You'll also need to balance out salt intake with potassium. Potassium can be found in fruits, vegetables, and legumes.

Since we're all Monday morning quaterbacking... allow me to use my own experience as someone who's weight yo-yos with the seasons:

The most important thing you will need in your quest to take off and keep of the flab is the support of friends and family.

Some will probably blather a lot of hot air about "taking responsibility for yourself" and not needing anyones help if you're truly dedicated. But these sort of platitudes only count if your one of those over-competitive knob-ends you run across too often here.

No, you need a gym buddy to encourage you to stay more than ten minutes.

You need a dining companion to remind you to get the salad rather than the baby back ribs.

You need someone to make all of the effort and sweat worth it.

Do you know why?

Because people do things for the immediate rewards. Smokers smoke for the buzz. You have sex for the orgasm. Over-eaters eat for the yummy full feeling.

And if nobody in your life gives a crap about the size of your waistband, you probably won't either. Support of the people who care about you is probably the best motivator you could ever have.

Far more than the desire to out-lift the guy next to you... Unless you happen to be one of those knob-ends...

And that's my opinion, as a fatty.

Its been statistically proven that people adjust their weight to fit the body image appropriate to those they associate with. So for those of you in Korea, good news!, the Koreans will always help remind you you are fat, even when you carry around just a few pounds extra.

But, a little self-discipline is also needed.

I disagree. Fat is necessary for muscle building, some fat is not good but some fat is essential. If you cut out fat from your diet you will have problems. Number one thing to stay the hell away from is Carbs. Limit the amount of carbs and starches in your diet.

I know I excercise lots and when I want to bulk up abit to gain strenght I increase carb intake.

Btw I have lost 58kilos.
