...that the posters on this board or most Native English speakers who have been in Korea for too long generally help as much as the average Korean bus driver?

What's the deal? I rarely want anything to do with a person when I hear they have been here for more than a year. There are exceptions, few and far between. But, it's really bizarre. And the people that point out that they deserve respect because they have been here longest, my god; it's like asking for recognition after winning a dog-food eating contest.

What a disjointed bunch of whack-jobs...It is no wonder most people think that the majority of us can't get decent jobs in the real world.

Anyway, I know what you mean, but be careful, this site is not representative of the real world!!! And for some old timers, many newbies forget they have lives, families and stuff. They aren't the same as a fresh out of uni grad, and wouldn't hang out with you back home either. Them being unfriendly is bad, but everyone looks at unfriendly in different ways.

As for the "I've been here ___ years so I am God" thing, I hate that too. I've been here 2 and a half years and will be leaving for sure at the 3 year mark. I don't want to put down roots here, but I wanted to stay enough to get what I needed from this experience (and I don't just mean money).

Some are very helpful! I can't quite agree with you in general. Sure, there are some who are very unhelpful, but there are some who give out lots of information, even when it's the same question that's been asked countless times and is a sticky in the FAQ section.

I think it's just you OP. You must be ugly or something. Maybe you scare them away. Usually it's the older members who help out the most.

I've always been a smart a$$, but I've always been helpful to people who ask. (at least I was when I could PM people).

Seriously, when exactly is "too long?" My guess is that anyone who has stayed here longer than the OP would has been here "too long" in her eyes. Some people have good lives here.
Also, equating being here in Korea for a long time with "winning a dog-food eating contest" is odd.

It seems to me the OP just doesn't like it here very much and doesn't like people who have adjusted better than she has.

OP, i disagree. although some posters here are rude and nasty when you ask a question, the majority are not. i've even asked some questions in pms, and not only have always received a reply back, but a polite one as well.

as for natives english speakers here in korea, i have friends that have been here for almost 3 years and another who has been here for 5 or 6 months, and we all get along fine.

i think what you may be upset about is how the people who have been here for years have their own group of friends, and aren't really looking to make friends with you. if that's the case i suggest trying to join a club or something like that. many native english speakers here don't like to be randomly approached by strangers looking to make friends

Yeah, those darn long-time expats in Korea . . . . .
They are all sooooooooooooooo mean . . .
especially those missionaries and their families who have been in Korea
a long time--some families for over a hundred years; what a bunch of jerks--they never
help me at the bus stop reading the Korean on the stop guide.
Yeah, those a-hole English-speaking diplomats never lend me a hand
to talk to my landlord.
Also those stuck-up expats who work in/with the Korean government
or Korean corporations who live in cush pads up on Namsan--I should
be entitled to all that they have; and, we ought to hang out, but they NEVER invite me over!!!!
