How do you get a Show phone in Korea? Tried to buy one yesterday but they refused to sign me up because I am a foreigner. I even offered to pay with my visa, but still I was rejected. Why are foreigners forbidden to get Show phones? |

I have a Show phone...it is an extremely cool thing to have to show off to people, but the excitement of it does fade after awhile and you start only using it as a normal phone.
A Show phone is a video phone. You hold it in front of your face to talk, and if the person you call also has a Show phone they hold it in front of their face, and you get live, face to face talking. You are watching them, they are watching you.
Anyway, I wanted to get one because I am a huge tech geek and I was just really impressed with the technology. It seems more like it's from The Jetsons, than something a person can do in 2008.
How did I get it? I went with my girlfriend (Korean) and we bought two phones together. There weren't any problems since I was with her. I recommend taking a Korean (friend or significant other) and buying 2 phones together, otherwise you may not have anyone to try out your video phone with, and the point of having a Show phone is that it is a video phone. We bought our phones because we came across a Show shop that had a 50% sale (kind of an impulse buy) so my phone which is regularily 520,000 won was only 260,000.
Apparently, you also get discounts on movies and other things if you make a video of yourself doing goofy things and send it as a video message. I've never tried doing this and I don't have much information on it, but when you see people acting odd in those Show commercials, this is what they are doing. |

I heard Korean wives loves these phones so they can check up on their husbands and make sure they are where they say they will be.
I was also told by Korean guys that they hate this phone because their wives phone them and they can not be in a love motel or ticket bang or the like. |

I have a show phone for sale. It's a contract phone...my contract was in my old directors name and when I left I had to cancel the contract.
Needless to say it was impossible for me to get a new contract, use prepaid with this phone, or keep my phone number. Sparkling.
If you're interested the model no. is SPH-W2900 and its about 4 months old. I have all the accessories it came with, except the charger (i have the lil bit you need to attach to a charger though.)
PM me if you're interested. |

shaunew what is a ticket bang? I've never heard that term before, and I thought I was pretty well up-to-date on all of the pervy parts of Korean culture. |

Show ~ what a joke. They are so unbelievably retarded. I went there today to pay my phone bills (plan under wife's name). I get there, give them the numbers, she rings it up, and I hand her my CC (samsung card). She looks at it, looks at me.. reads the name and scurries away. :S I sit there while she gets her boss, he comes over and asks for me to show my passport, I was like WTF, I want to pay my phone bill. Then the big eyes .. No englishee.. I was pissed, I had to call my wife to "verify" that it was my credit card, then with her varification, my arc card was good enough "proof" ..
sparkle sparkle, I hope the twit dies, sparkle sparkle

Did you pay for the phones yourself or did gf pay for them with cash or credit card? |
