Some girl met a soldier and she told her parents he raped her, they went to the motel and arrested him, later on she told the truth, and yet the story still made the front page of the korean paper.

US Soldier Arrested for Alleged Rape

By Jung Sung-ki
Staff Reporter

A U.S. airman was arrested early Wednesday and has been questioned by South Korean police on allegations of raping a 19-year-old Korean woman, according to the police and U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) officials Thursday.

A 19-year-old private first class of the 51st Fighter Wing based in Osan, some 70 kilometers south of Seoul, only identified by his initial B, communicated with the woman through the Internet, they said.

The two met near Incheon Tuesday and went to a Seoul motel. The Korean woman identified by her initial K collapsed after returning home and was hospitalized, the police said.

At hospital, she told her parents that the U.S. soldier had raped her, they said. The police arrested the G.I. at the motel early Wednesday.

But the alleged suspect and victim gave completely different accounts of the incident.

The woman said she was sexually assaulted, while the airman argued they slept together under mutual consent, according to the police.

The soldier has been handed over to USFK authorities for investigation, U.S. military sources said.

Under the South Korea-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), Korea can assume jurisdiction in cases involving serious crimes such as murder, rape, or arson.

``We're cooperating fully with Korean authorities in the investigation of the incident,'' Col. Jon Norman, commander of the 51st Fighter Wing, told The Korea Times. ``We take this allegation very seriously and will continue to cooperate with the Korean and American judicial system.''

Rape cases by U.S. service members have often caused controversy here.

Last year a 23-year-old soldier from the U.S. Eighth Army here was arrested by police in western Seoul when he allegedly punched an elderly woman, in her 60s, in the face and raped her.

The suspect was sentenced to four years in prison.

About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed here.

In Japan, anti-U.S. sentiment has been growing over the latest rape case involving a U.S. Marine, who allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl on Okinawa.

If she is lying, that's awful. This kind of thing happens back home too- lots of ink will be spilt about a rape case, the man (usually a man) gets proven innocent? You'll never hear another word of it, and his reputation is ruined.

*Disclaimer* I am against rape and feel actual rapists should be severely punished. Please don't mis-interpret.

Any woman is able to say"No" at any point at that time all intimate contact must stop.

That's all good.

But, now think about the Korean attitude towards Korean women and foreign men.
A Korean woman who goes to a motel, sleeps with a Korean man, and then claims rape..... is lying.
If she does the same with a foreign man, she's telling the truth.

You'd be hard pressed to find a cop who thought differently.

Good in theory, but difficult to put into practice. Better to say no at the onset.

Not in Korea, and especially not in a hotel room. Saying you said "No" does not substantiate legal recourse.

A Korean friend of mine was accused of rape a few years back. No legal action was taken, and he wasn't even aware of the accusation. He had no idea why a large number of his friends stopped talking to him. It tore the Hongdae music scene in half for over a year.

It turns out the girl who accused him of rape had cheated on her boyfriend with him, and didn't want to admit she was cheating. To make matters worse, the boyfriend and my friend were friends with each other.

Rape accusations are a serious thing. I believe that rapists should get what they deserve, but it's more important to not act rashly than to dish out justice.

She musta had the hots for him right away, or was it a flash in the pan thing to get back at her boyfriend. Maybe it's all because of pangs of regret afterwards.

Why did she faint or collapse. Maybe tooo much passion.

Asian chicks and really all chicks need to be able to own up to having consentual sex and not feel so embarrassed about it. One of my Korean ex-girlfriends once told me that her ex-husband (an American GI) had "pressured" her into having sex. I couldn't imagine any guy having to pressure her into it, so out of curiosity I asked how he pressured her. She went on to say that he had told her he missed her and stuff. Rolling Eyes

Just the other night, I was watching a TV show about this murder http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/12/16/BAGI9N0SA81.DTL and wasn't at all surprised at how the date turned into a murder by the girl lying to her main boyfriend about being raped by her boyfriend on the side when it was actually consentual.

I don't know...rape is a touchy one for sure. The story went down one of two ways...he did it or she is full of it. If she is full of it, I am thinking mom and dad were grilling her about where she was for the night and cracked. If he did do it, then he is an a$$. But to go to a hotel with him? Makes you wonder if she is that nieve and young or just really full of it.

Either way, not a good story.
