My E-2 expires in May. If I looked for a new job from scratch, and got all the documents ready, would I require a consulate interview as well, or would I be exempt from that, because I am currently a native teacher here.

I wish I knew the answer to my own repetitive questions Rolling Eyes

You shouldn't need an interview, as the regulations exempt those teachers who have previously taught on an E-2. That being said, your best bet to avoid the interview is to make a visa run (Japan, Hong Kong, etc.). Some of the embassies/consulates in the U.S., Canada, etc. are requiring everyone to interview regardless of their E-2 history.

A few recent arrivals to my area from Canada and NZ had their interview via webcam... understandable as the nearest consulate from my hometown is over 1500km.

Anyone know if this is the exception, or the norm?
