Are we really expected to visit the Korean embassy in our home countries in person before we go to Korea?

I live at the bottom of New Zealand and don't think flying to Wellington makes sense. Is there any truth to this or are uninformed people spreading dumb@ss rumours?

I've taught in Korea for a year already and just had a phone interview.

Hey I think I know you.
Anyway, in the U.S. it's somehow different at each consulate but when I went there to drop off my documents they told me I had to do an interview, even though I had an E2 before. I have no idea about NZ but I would get in touch with your embassy directly sooner rather than later and make sure of the situation. If you have to do one, maybe you can do one by webcam? I heard some people say that's allowed in certain places...
