Seriously. When wallpaper gets old it loses its water repellent finish/varnish that it originally had, right? And takes on layers of life of its own, grime, especially around wall lightswitches. So how can you wash the wallpaper without it getting wet, pulpy, and scrubbing off leaving an obvious patch, as if it has been sandpapered? I really want to know because I'm cleaning up the apartment to leave, satisfy the landlord, and get the damage deposit back. I think some Koreans said special wallpaper washing stuff is available at Emart or Homeplus. It wasn't in the local mart there.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Farmer's Almanac folksy kind of suggestions perhaps?

Your friend, Dirty.

I tried a little window cleaner and blotting instead of rubbing. Still left it a little whiter than normal. It can look bad until it dries too. Best bet is to just try some different things in small areas that can't be seen. Let the wall paper dry overnight to see the true difference.

Our standards are obviously higher than the average Korean, so as long as you clean it up decent I don't think your landlord will get too picky. Generally, the place needs to be wallpapered when someone moves in. Schools just don't do this for instructors cause they are cheap beaps.

Window cleaning and blotting with paper towel, which I have lots of. Need to buy window cleaner, anyway, to get the sliding balcony doors. How did you come across window cleaner and blotting method? Beleive it or not a lady in the mart recommended Dove beauty bar facial soap; I guess she thought it would be gentle. The ammonia in window cleaner (isn't that what's in window cleaner?) may act as a bleaching/stain remover at once. Thanks a lot. This is a difficult question. Yes, the wallpaper should have been changed. It looks like old parchment, goat skin, coffee stained pirate map. I doubt the landlord will be too particular, but I ought to clean it or try just to get the damage deposit back.
