As I finished the last of my Let's Be Mild Roast coffee, which happened to be heated to a hot temperature in a metal can, I can't help but wonder...

IS THAT REALLY SAFE TO DRINK??? Shocked

Yes, I know the can isn't made of lead Rolling Eyes but still, I have to wonder....

It is important that when in Korea you become used to not thinking. If you think, you get into trouble, just go with things, like the locals do.

(Yeah, I know the coffee tastes like metal.)

It tastes funny, but I'd rather drink hot coffee from a can than stick my odeng into that soy sauce that everyone's double and triple-dipped in all day. How disgusting is THAT?

FOR SURE! Whats worse is when the kids get those tiny "vending machine" type coffee cups and use them to DRINK that stuff!

I knocked over my can of coffee a few weeks back and some of it spilt on a marble stone barrier thing. So two weeks later it was still there as a dark and glossy patch on the stone. It looked like varnish as it had set with a nice dark and rich color and kept its glossy appearance. That was the last canned coffee I had. Try it and see for yourself. Turned me right off.

Oh, tell me about it. My husband always has to drink a cupful after he eats his fill. I don't want him kissing me with that mouth.

And is it just me or, after they chew/suck the odeng off the stick, they RECYCLE it for someone else to suck on? Shocked

I believe you are talking about the yummy broth and not the soy sauce. Nothing is dipped in the broth so no problem, but the soy sauce seems sad and lonely and not too yummy for drinking.

Yes, but flies can fall in the broth, since it's never covered, in fact anything can fall in there. Yuck, gives me the chills just thinking about that stuff.

I've seen a double dip into the broth on more then one occasion. It might have been done accidentally but when kids deliberately (Gosh- how do I say this without it looking offensive?!?!?) suck the broth from the odeng and then re-dip CHRIST thats GROSS! As for the sticks, I have only seen them being reloaded once. That was at the place by immigration with the different colored (red, yellow, blue- has something to do with pricing, its also a trademark!) tips.

Those canned coffees are VERY useful in the winter. They are heated up and if it is cold outside, think of it as a little heater for your pocket/hands.

Sounds like a waste of money, but what I end up doing is when it is really cold I buy them and use up the heat. Then I save them and give them to students as a reward. They don't care if it is hot/warm/cold etc. They love the freebees.
