I wanted to sort a few things in my life out, one was my teeth (check) and when I get back to the UK I'm having LASIK and then off to Peru, stuff I couldn't do if I was working in Spain for over a 1000 Euros a month.
I like it here to be honest, the place does have a lot going for it. But I do think it is all comparable from the place you left to come here - if you take a job here after living in Malibu or Brisbane all your life it probably is a bit crap.
But I came here from Wigan so it was a bit of a lifestyle upgrade for me! |

I was originally planning to go to China. But Korea has a much bigger swing dance scene, so here I am. |

I left Korea a year ago and honestly thought someone would have to pry the cold dead hands off my Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and taco truck burrito before I would ever leave my small town in N. California again.
Against my better reasoning I started to miss things like those late night walks to the corner 김밥 천국 for some 김치찌개, chasing down some 두부 김치 with a 3,000cc of bad beer with good friends, and climbing 설악산 in a state of near exhaustion while some 아줌마 strides past me. I also think I may have a terminal case of the fever
Never thought I'd be back, but fate has it that I'm Seoul bound next week for at least another year. I enjoy teaching more than the programming gig I'd otherwise have and it put off the inevitable couch and matching curtains purchase for at least another year.
Oh, and *cough*...the money *cough*...
I'm considering having a long term go at an ESL career and SK is a good place for me to save some dough so I can buff up my certifications. |

The money. Not that it's *that* great, but for a first year teacher with a masters, the best money for me was here aside from Saudi Arabia... and, just no. I tried to get as many digs in state-side as I could about the money teachers make there. Every time the subject of me moving to K came up, I pointed out that they were going to pay me more than my state government would.. just trying to spread the awareness |

25 hours per week vs. the 60 hours per week I was working in Canada. I thought of it as a working vacation until I got romantically involved. Then I made a go of it to be a more serious teacher as I figured I would be in for the long haul. Except for the occasional bump in the road, no regrets. |

Money.
Having previously taught in Korea a few years ago, I knew that the financial benefits were good. Saving and spending potential.
I would prefer to be somewhere prettier like teaching English in Rio again, but the money is terrible, hence I came here.
I do enjoy Korea (good and bad) and will stay until I have enough saved. |

-everyone said that Korea will either be the only place you work...or the worst place you work. I figured if it is the worst I'd rather start here here than end up here. I'm way too young to have a shot at University jobs for at least 8 years, and fresh to 'adult' life. Korea seems like a good place to start over after Russia imploded for me. |

Wanted to see Asia. Safer than China (I guess?) and less work/lower standards than Japan. |

Every time this question is posed on a thread here most if not all the posters cite money as their primary motivation for coming and staying in Korea. On the China forum, even where money can be had, one reads of the culture, the people, etc. Quite revealing, I'd say. |

In Korea I can save more money in a year than I could in a lifetime back home. I am going to comerical diving school next year and there's no way in eternity that I could ever come up with the 15,000 US its gonna take working any job back in America. |
