|
|
Just returned from my winter break to the bleak prospect of a news blackout. In addition to the Internet, I had been in the habit of viewing CNN International on TV.
But for some reason, I can't locate it when I channel surf. It appears to have been replaced by the Korean Women's Channel, which emphasizes fashion. And of course the TV lineup needs a new fashion show about as much as a hole in the head.
Anyone else out there lost the show? If so, do you know why it was cut from the programming? In my area, it was the ONLY non-movie channel in English.
Any guidance (and condolences) will be appreciated. Or if you happen to know who I should contact to request such service, that would be even better. |

where are you and who is your cable company would be a help. in yongsan-gu on c&m cable its fine. they may of moved it to a digital tier which means you will have to shell out more money plus 250k deposit for a box. in mapo-gu on c&m they moved cnn int to a digital tier last year, meant my cable bill doubled |

They charge us an additional 10,000 or 11,000 won here just for CNN alone.
I just use TVU Player and laugh at them. |

All:
Mahalo for the quick replies.
Does going digital mean they have to come over and rig up a satellite dish? That sounds like more hassle and won. Say it ain't so, Joe.
hagwonguy1979:
Have no idea who our cable provider is since it's included with our electric bill, which has been a nominal cost to date. I suppose the building manager might know.
So you have a box but no dish, eh? What English language channels do you get, if I might ask?
I'm going through Anjali Rao withdrawal symptoms as I post.
And I actually like watching Anderson Cooper 360 most of the time. |

I got a converter for digital cable, i get like 180 channels of which 7 or 8 are worth it. I do get the BBC and CNBC with this package so thats decent.
Understand your Angali Rao withdrawal, man she looks great now, always shows a bit a cleaveage when she's on. Remember when she was with Star World? She weighed about 3 tons and had this really hard look about her she was almost as bad as some of the BBCs women. |

O.K. So the converter box required a 250K won deposit? And this was from KT? Do you get any other news channels besides BBC? Any nature shows? I now get CNBC but it seems to be all business chatter. I want straight news.

Speaking of hard news, that Zain Verjee ain't hard on the eyes either. Like two watermelons jostling in a bicycle cart when she covered the recent Kenyan postelection riots. Anjali was indeed a tub of blub in Britain and being almost as bad as a mouthy Brit gal is pretty bad.
Speaking of mouthy Brit gals (although she's not fat), that Becky Anderson on CNN International takes the cake. Neurotic hand movements and he-man gait. She once anchored with that twit Richard Quest. It was a train wreck and they were both pulled to do roving reporter spots.
I do enjoy the little jam sessions in the House of Commons when the PM comes to speak and the breaking news--when it is actually news. Lately they've become a glorified Weather Channel with their hyped coverage of natural disasters. |

Mine is with a seperate cable company. C&M seems to have taken over most of the cable business in Seoul. On my digital package, I still get AFN (for how long I dont know), CNN, BBC World, CNBC (I like when they go stateside at night), Discovery Channel, I also get Nat Geo and Hist channel but they are dubbed into Korean.
Back to CNN, I havent seen Zain in a while, but I'll take your word, she seems to be doing more stuff on CNN USA. The transformation of Anjali has been remarkable, I used to not watch her because I thought she was so annoying on Star News. She's now better looking than (dare I say it) Kristi Lu. I'll take those two and raise you a Monita Rajpal and Candy Reid now that she has had her kid
I agree with you about Becky Anderson, she is one of the most annoying ones on the channel, I dont know who is uglier her, that Sasha Harriman or the whale Candy Crowley. Becky and Richard Quest, ewwww!!!!! Who is most annoying, Richard Quest, Wolf Blitzer or Larry King? |

Richard Quest is the most annoying. I wonder how his interviewees ever take him seriously. I guess having the backing off CNN is his reedeming factor that gets him in the door. |

My friend who loves british guys said "he's the single most unattractive man on tv".
Anyway, to answer SM's question which he may or may not have asked, I believe what happened is the government turned down a request for an increase in basic cable rates and the cable companies responded by movie some channels up to a more expensive package.
Yeah, Korea.
I lost CNN and even Arirang. |
