... or better yet, get off your perch and enjoy a beautiful Saturday! G'day. |
there's always somebody telling another to shut up in discussions on freedoms of speech.
america doesn't have a terror problem? they have multiple terror problems. every mom says a lttle prayer every time their kid steps out the door to school.
everybody has home security systems to protect from unknown intruders.
they are in the middle of war with no end in sight (has already outlasted their participation in WW2.
cops aren't trained to be friendly anymore, they are trained to induce complaince thru intimidation. shaved heads, bullet proof vests at all times with that roid rage 'tude.
terror is part of everyday life in america. i was off the mainland for about a decade. the change in that time was very noticable. fear is big business. just watch the weather channel. fascinating stuff.
re: casablanca. it is one of my favorite movies. that and african queen- another example of sticking it to the man under the right circumstances. but are we each to determine when that time is or do was just wait for fox news to decide? in both films, the everyman is compelled to action by the zealot(s).
about six months back there bwas a film staring markymark walberg as an ex-sniper called back to duty. jaw dropping plot twists have him doing stuff unfathomable on film. maybe one for both film school and poli sci class. |

Telling someone to shut up isn't a violation of their right to free speech. |

| "Terrorism" is a value-laden and difficult-to-define concept, subject to varied interpretations, and usually having something to do with one or another allegation. If we were to ban films that glorified "terrorism" that would not lead anywhere productive. |

| Singapore makes it illegal to watch films that advocate terrorism and uses this as a means to toss in jail (without conviction and for as long as they want) dudes who might become terrorists. When I first moved to Singapore, this offended my civil-libertarian ideals. After a couple years here, well, I'm comfortable with it. |

should films glorifying/extolling/advocating terrorism be banned? |
banning films for ideological *beep*?
not in a free country |
Under German law, performing a Hitler salute, wearing Nazi uniforms or displaying the swastika can carry a penalty of up to three years in prison. That's one ideology that if glorified in film is punishible by law within a free country.
As others have stated the problem here would be definition. The definition for the word terrorism itself is higly debated let alone determining what meets it's parameters. |

Yeah, unless you live here and are kept totally safe and secure. When you get off work today, go open an atlas and take a gander at the neighborhood the Lion City is in. A muslim rebellion in the Philippines, one in Thailand (best described as an ethnic cleansing).. Why not one in Singapore? |
