Was only getting 15,000/hr until recently bumped to 17,000.

And this was on 120 hr/month 2.4 million contract.

So I actually make less in OT.

Messed up.

Thanks for your replies. My boss is pretty decent. I don't want to get greedy but don't want to get screwed either so just wanted a general consensus on what I should agree to.

50,000 per half hour.

I usually don't have or need to work overtime.

But my school is pretty generous when I do.

You need to get greedy. Look out for yourself. Your boss is making serious $$ on his extra classes, so make him pay.

is 20k the norm for overtime rates at PS? and usually not negotiable? (places like SMOE etc)

How about hagwons? What is the minimum you would normally accept? I noticed some of you of course posted your rates but not sure whether they applied to PS or hagwons.

Will be teaching in the near future but before accepting any contract I`d prefer to do my research rather than get screwed out of things like this

i think 20,000-25,000 won is pretty standard for PS contracts. however, almost everything seems negotiable in korea... just because it's in black and white on paper doesn't mean it's solid. i'd try for higher

are you headed to a public school?

Overtime is a little tricky in some cases. If you're teaching only a couple of students then the owner could very well be losing money.

Then the boss has the brain of a maggot, why accept a class that doesn't even break-even?

Sometimes it's good to take students in who need or want English. It's good for the academy's reputation. It can attract other students to other classes. Some academies are in smaller towns. I think, however, if you have at least 2 students it's close enough to break even.

If you follow the rules set out by MoE you will need 3 to break even on operations and four to break even including admin and other costs.

So a wise decision is to accept from three students on. at least you cover operation costs and build opportunities for future.

Or in other words - it'd be nice if the people who are getting paid loads explain why.....

$6,000 an hour (EPIK) --- This is non-teaching hours though. That one strange clause that everyone has in their EPIK contracts... Rolling Eyes
