it's never safe to use an open network without any type of security or encryption. your internet traffic can be monitored effortlessly with packet sniffers.

Quote:
Many services on the internet send data in the plain text. By default POP mail, SMTP (for sending mail) send data in clear text. The same applies for FTP, Telnet and News clients. ICQ, MSN and AOL Instant messengers send passwords again in clear text. In fact most services send passwords this way.

Internet service is cheap here. Ranging from 25,000 to 50,000 won /month depending on the ISP/contract/speed ( Home Wireless, cable, adsl vdsl ftth ). If you want to download a crapload of stuff (p2p, bittorrent) or play games, it's recommended you have your own connection.

save yourself from possible inconveniences (banned from network/security issues/no connection/possible slow speeds) and pay for your own. 1 less kimbab everyday should cover the costs:)

common ISPs:

Hanaro
KT Megapass
LG Xspeed

It's illegal to use someone else's wifi connection.

With that said, if you're keeping your name and any money transactions out of your transmissions, they won't get anything important.

Unless you're worried about some Korean getting ahold of your Dave's ID and password, or something.
