Israeli MP blames quakes on gays
Ultra-Orthodox Jews protest in Jerusalem
An Israeli MP has blamed parliament's tolerance of gays for earthquakes that have rocked the Holy Land recently.
Shlomo Benizri, of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party, said the tremors had been caused by lawmaking that gave "legitimacy to sodomy".
Israel decriminalised homosexuality in 1988 and has since passed several laws recognising gay rights.
Two earthquakes shook the region last week and a further four struck in November and December.
Adoption
Mr Benizri made his comments while addressing a committee of the Israeli parliament, or Knesset, about the country's readiness for earthquakes.
He called on lawmakers to stop "passing legislation on how to encourage homosexual activity in the state of Israel, which anyway brings about earthquakes".
Israeli court rulings in recent years have granted inheritance rights to gay couples and recognised same-sex marriages performed abroad.
Last week, Israel's attorney general ruled same-sex couples could adopt. |

Yeah another right wing crazy fuming at some liberal progress. Like here in NZ a few years back Team Jesus accused gays of causing an algae bloom on the coastline in the summer season. Go figure. |

until lightning comes out of a clear blue sky and strikes a gay parade, I thnk envoking God is a little premature. At the same time I think lightning striking down anybody would be really cool. |

Perhaps it was the gays, but not tolerance that caused the quakes. They may have been 'all humping' in unison, causing a specific sex resonance that then led to the earthquakes. The gays have amazing and frightening powers. Best not to antagonize them. |

Someone should have told that member of the Israeli Knesset that an earthquake also struck neighboring Lebanon. Also, about a decade ago Egypt had an earthquake, and they arrest homosexuals unlike Israel, so it is the dumbest thing ever. I think what people do in their bedroom cannot affect natural phenomena. It doesn't mean I support sexual orientation parades. I just support people's right to privacy and not invoking God every time something happens in the world... |
