So... in theory, can I call my local police detachment and speak to my friend who is a constable, have a criminal record check printed off overnight (it's quick in my town), then get my parents to notarize it...?
And that is all I need as far as CRCs are concerned? Do I need some kind of sexual offense sheet too? |

I would get a VSS check as well.
I spoke with the Toronto and Vancouver consulates about three weeks ago and they give out conflicting information.
Toronto wants the CRC notarized and Vancouver does not. |

Thanks a lot. What is a VSS check? |

I think an RCMP check is the best. |

Takes six to eight months. I don't have six months. |

I had an RCMP check done in a week including vulnerable sectors (however this was done in country).
No one else can do it for you, not even your constable friend, it's against the law. That is, unless, you sign over power of attorney to someone (parent) and then they can do it on your behalf (providing they can provide the necessary id's to verify both their identity and yours). |

Yes, that's what he'd facilitate. There is another person from my town in Korea so they have a system in place for it. |

hey i got the crc with VSS at my local branch, and it took them 5 minutes to search their system and print off a copy, sign it, and stamp it....then, I had a copy of it notarized by a lawyer. This is what the consulate in Toronto said was acceptable! It was only about $10 for the crc, and thankfully, I know a lawyer, so that didn't cost me. But, that could be quite costly if you dont!
good luck |

If you are in Korea, the only way to get the VSS is the RCMP check. However, after speaking with the Canadian Embassy, they assured me that a regular check will suffice, and they will notarize one that comes from a PD not one from a website. The VSS is an idea implemented by some pencil pusher at the Korean embassy in Toronto. MOJ in Korea have NO idea what the VSS is, nor does Immi, so, the regular check will suffice if you side step the Korean embassy in Toronto. Fark, that woman at the Korean Embassy in Toronto bothers me. I have had multiple arguments with her. %*$&. |

My RCMP CRC just got returned back to my home in Canada. It's 100% clean, but I am not sure if they did a VSS on it, although i did have my mom attach a letter stating to do the VSS as well.
How do I check to see if they did a VSS? Does it have to be done through another agency. Also, do i have to mail it somewhere in Canada to get it notarized or can that be done in Seoul?
I want to make sure everything is in order before having it mailed over to Korea. |

A woman at the Canadian Embassy in Seoul said that they will notarize any CRC done by a police department or detachment. |

If in Korea, currently on a visa, you do not need the VSS. See my post above, |
