Craven, have you seen "Blood Car"? You should. I don't think it's Canadian, but it reminded me of some Canadian indies I've seen.

I too am working on a zombie 'script' of sorts. Let's just say it involves zombies and Jesus.

Don't assume that a movie is the only way you can go. I finished a general prospectus, about 40 pages depending on the rewrite, essentially a first act and thensome. I've actually been looking for a cartoonist/artist to do it as a comic. If you want to get funding, and not do it Kevin Smith style, you're going to have to do at least a basic storyboard anyway.

Very Happy It is a little frightening to think of the mess if there actually was an outbreak in Seoul. The way the hospital system operates and the density of the population would conspire to make this place a charnel house.
I think Kimchee cures zombies

Hey fellow zombiphiles.

As noted above a few of us are working on zombie related projects. I'm looking for some more source material to round out what I've already been working on.

I've seen most of the zombie movies of merit, and some not. I've read all the Walking Dead comics and most of the Deadite ones. I'm rereading the "Survival Guide" and I've ordered "WWZ".

So, any suggestions? Craven, you seem to know your stuff. Anyone, anyone?

Wow there's a question. Have you had an opportunity to check out the Italian zombie flicks of the early 80s? With the success of the original Dawn in Italy, violent exploitation attained grotesque new levels in a cinema culture that had no real MPAA rating system. No such thing as an X rating for violence meant that these filmmakers could put the most revolting things onscreen under the auspices of the zombie film.

Lucio Fulci was among the biggest culprits, with Zombie and City of the Living Dead (once banned in my home province!) ranking among the "best" of the worst.

As far as any books are concerned, I would recommend any writings by Julia Kristeva on the abject. American Horrors (ed. Gregory Waller) has a number of excellent scholarly essays on horror cinema. Max Brooks is currently the man when it comes to contemporary zombie fiction, but David Wellington wrote an online serial novel entitled Monster Island that I read a couple of years ago that wasn't bad. I think it has since been published in book form.

I'm hoping this helps you out. If you wanna PM me, I'm always willing to chat about the greatest horror sub-genre over a couple beers.

Have you seen 'Juno', Craven? I've done a number of searches but I can't find the name of the horror movie Juno and Jason Bateman's character watch. Is that the guy you're talking about?

I've seen some of the Italian horror movies from the 70's/spaghetti western era, but no Italian zombie movies. Any specific suggestions I might be able to find online?

Is 'City of the Living Dead' part of the Living Dead series or seperate? I don't remember which one but wasn't the cheesy but awesome zombie flick that featured punk rock kids zombiing out a Living Dead movie?

If I ever make it to Korea I'll meet you for a beer and zombie talk surely. First I have to caucus for Obama and sue my city for being dumbasses. And I thought I was moving home for two or three months.

I loves Lucio Fulci's Zombie. Probably my favorite.

As above, Zombie is surely the best of a bad lot. You get to see a zombie wrassle a real shark, at least three gutmunches and any other number of physical violations against our hapless heroes. Online? You might have to search for that, it being the best known of these movies.

City of the Living Dead is actually Italian with no connection to Romero's Living Dead cycle, while the film you refer to, Return of the Living Dead, with the hot naked chick and rockin soundtrack, brought the term braaaaiiiinnnnsss to the vernacular. Great comedy/horror and surprisingly bleak. Also no real relation to Romero, except for the opening in which these two bozos working in a medical supply house unleash the catalyst for infestation.

Assault On Precinct 13, the original John Carpenter version and not the crappy remake, reminds me alot of a zombie movie. Just substitutes slow moving, silent gangsters for zombies.

I love Zombi. It's what actually got me into it as a genre per se, and not just as individual horror movies. Funny thing is, I actually got that DVD in a discount bin at Wal-Mart here in Korea about 4 years back. I must've watched it about 12 times now.

Can't go wrong with the shark scene. There's actually a Canadian hardcore band named after that scene- "Fake Shark, Real Zombie!"

Anyways, I've been reading a few reviews of "Diary" that don't sound too promising, and they seemed to have been from guys who really didn't want to give a bad review, but felt they had to. They're just internet reviews though, so I'll keep my hopes up.

Great find for Walmart. Can anyone else recommend good places to buy horror movies in Korea?

I once found a copy of Suspiria in a department store in Daejeon. It was the "deluxe" version, with interviews with Argento and some film critics. I can't say as I've seen much for the more classic horror films, just new stuff readily available on the street or at Yongsan. I must say, I would be interested if anyone knew where to find that stuff.

There is a DVD shop in Chongshin University Station (line 4) that has a pretty ecclectic selection. I picked up I Spit On Your Grave, Caligula and Eraserhead.

Wow, one of the originals of the video nasties! Was I Spit on your Grave edited for content or was it intact? I have noticed that DVDs such as that are often subject to the Korean censor.

Was Caligula the X-rated version? That is one film that never made the cut in the worst films thread, but definitely ranks. A cast that includes Malcolm MacDowell, John Gielgud and Peter O'Toole, a screenplay by Gore Vidal, and they churn out one of the biggest cinematic turds of the latter 20th century.

I Spit On Your Grave was unedited. I still haven't watched the Caligula DVD. I've alreadt seen it in the movies but it was so cheap I thought it would be worth buying it just so I could put it on to shock my friends.

I just picked up the zombies game and the mall expansion for it. The mall adds some distinct fun. Amazon has these, someone asked earlier, that's where I ordered mine from. You can also look up the company, Twilight Creations. They have a bunch of zombie/horror board games. The most interesting one was a game that uses a graveyard as a board and the player token are little wind up zombies.
