2 days in Bangkok, what to do, where to stay?!
Last time I was there was about 10 years ago, never made it to KSR, never saw kickboxing - these are some things I wanna do, also take a longboat trip up a river to see houses on stilts and floating markets
anything else? will be with the g/f so patpong ping pong shows might have to be missed. |

Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Traimit would be my top picks. For Floating Markets you should go to Damnoern Saduak. About 2 hours west of Bkk.
A good circuit trip, is to get the sky train to Siam Stn, change lines to Saphan Taksin, then get the public riverboats upstream to Phra Arthit, a 10 minute walk from KSR. On the way, you'll see Wat Arun, on the left.
Suk 11 is a better place to stay, imho. It's near Nana Skytrain Stn, off Sukhumvit Road.

Where to See Thai Boxing
In Bangkok, matches are held every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at the Ratchadamnoen Stadium. Lumpini Stadium hosts fights every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Lumpini Stadium can be easily reached by MRT. Alight at the Lumpini station. Fights start around 18:30 and generally consist of a 10 fight card. Admission fees for tourists range from 1,000 (31.50 USD) to 2,000 (63.00 USD) Baht for ring-side seats. |

There's also The Hell Club in Pattaya. |

Maybe if you are into bedlice.
OP google discount hotels bangkok and take your pick.
1000-3000 will get you somewhere nice.
Watergate near Pantip plaza can be had for $100 a night.
Miami on sukumvit is dirt cheap but grim. It is in walking distance of Thermae though. |

There are no bedlice in Suk 11. I've stayed there 6 times, since 2000 (last time was January, 2007). They have aircon rooms for around 1,000 baht with hot showers. And a free breakfast with fresh fruit & coffee. |

Were when I had friends visiting me who foolishly stayed there a couple of years back against my better judgement.
Why on earth would you pay 1000B for a run down guesthouse when a hotel room is available for the same or only a little bit more?

Never needed to stay there. I lived close enough. Friends on the other hand thought it would be quaint to stay there when visiting me and regretted it from the massive welts on their bodies from bed bugs.
Rather dark and dingy in that photo
vs
Unici Leela - stayed at my wife and myself when overnighting in Bangkok - not our first choice but always reliable and around 1000B mark.
Looks run down to me mate. Obviously we have different level of standards when it comes to where we rest our heads.
Even the Sawadee on Sukumvit looks nicer in the photos and I know Sawadee is a dump.

Here you says it's 1000B for a hot shower and aircon. I expect a hot shower and aircon anywhere I stay that costs 1000B. |

Hi I am Gautham Katta from India.
I was on a shoe string budget to Bangkok. Trust me, accomodation is something that i am very fussy about, I don't like dirty toilets and bugs in the rooms, this is not my first to Bangkok, and trust me some of the four star category hotels that i have stayed in were very mediocre and for the money paid, not worth it!
After speculating a lot i finally mustered up my courage and booked online and did make another back up reservation in case i found the hotel not to my satisfactory levels.
I reached Bangkok, and still contemplating to check into SUK11 or not, then finally reached around at noon.
I was not very happy looking at the area NANA, and the heat was killing me. Finally dragged my suitcase till the hostel.
I met this guy Anil at the reception, who asked me for my reservation and smiled and said, can i have your passport. They did their formalities. then i couldn't wait to ask him if i could checkout the rooms and then settle in....on a clause if i found it good. Anil, happily agreed for what i said.
I went up, i really liked the place it was very cozy, not like a freakin brothel...the one i visited in Hong Kong the year before, where i had to cancel my booking and sneak out with all my baggage! that was terrible.
I saw people, mainly westerners. I went into the room, to my surprise, the toilet was squeaky clean, amazingly clean and the sheets on the bed were clean and not smelling of some cheap detergent and towels were fluffy and good.
The A/C functioned, so did the instant geyser and so did the potty! and the best part is they have a health faucet in their toilets!
Going to loo is a painful task for Indians when they travel abroad as we can't get used to the Tissue wiping! we need water to save us and our butts!
I finally took my shower and rushed out!
Time for breakfast....well, what more can i expect paying just THB-600/night!? the breakfast was good with lovely bread and butter and the marmalade was just fresh! and the muffins, the best i had in Asia! Banana walnut muffins, i cant forget it.
there were bagels too! what a treat. and Whole lot of fresh fruits which were replenished before they were over! and they had a refrigerator with water, all you have to do is put in THB 5 and take it, trust me its no way inferior to EVIAN, unless brand mind blocks affect us.
i stayed here for 3 nights and the day i was leaving i requested if i could delay my checkout for another couple of hours and still retaining the room! The guy at the reception said, its absolutely fine! but there would be a nominal charge for it! which is a fair deal don't you agree with me?
One should really check this place out! They are good people running a fantastic hostel.
And the sky train which is about 5 mins walk from SUK11 makes life easier and fast in Bangkok.
Will certainly visit SUK11 when i am back in Bangkok. |

mrsquirrel: you'd be surprised how many dumb foreigners get bitten by mosquitoes, then claim they've been attacked by bedbugs. And those rooms have fluoro lights, btw. |

Interesting that, insulting people there.
The bedbugs were quite visible. Considering the size of them and the two that they killed and kept as evidence. One of which I saw and it was the size of my finger nail - I kid yee not, bigger than the ones I saw in Newcastle Australia and I thought they were massive.
They actually moved out in the night time because his wife was bitten so badly by them to another hotel.
Left one bed bug behind in their room and took one with them to show as evidence to the management.
They didn't care, claimed it wasn't theirs and refused to do anything about it.
Needless to say I wouldn't recommend it to anybody else.
Not my idea of fun either |

Well, there were no bedbugs when I was there, and I would go back. I thought it was a great place. |

With such a short time in BKK and so much to see, I would highly recommend renting a car and driver for the day. Most nicer hotels will have car services or can arrange a car. Additionally, you should consider an all-day taxi which is cheaper than a car service. We stayed at Holiday Inn and rented a Mercedes Benz with English-speaking driver for 8 hours for about $80. We told him where we wanted to go (gave him a list actually) and he made some suggestions as to sightseeing order, drove us to the sights, gave us some history, and waited in the car as we visited the sight. Well worth the money. |
