Any way you spell it...avoid this school like the plague. This particular SLP is crap. I've seen other SLPs, and heard great things about other branches of this program, but the Pupyeong branch is total garbage. I know because I worked there until quite recently. 5 foreign teachers have left this school in the past month- yes 30 days- because of the way in which they treat their employees. One guy was there for 5 days, and put in his letter of resignation.
I am writing this because I thought I had done my research on the school before I came to Korea. I wish I had dug deeper. Trust me when I say that this is a warning everyone should heed. This SLP isn't worth it.
I personally wasn't paid, and had to fight to receive my January paycheck. Why? The reason still befuddles me because the managers are all liars. One manager is even crazy- a fact which even people who don't work at that SLP branch can attest to. And I don't use the crazy descriptor lightly. She is stark raving mad. On top of all of that, the school tried to intimidate me, by canceling an airline ticket which I bought with my own money by illegally using the passport and visa information that every employer has for foreign employees to serve this purpose. That was the final straw for me. And rather than stay the 11 working days left in my contract, I quit. By doing so, I lost out on thousands of dollars. But trust me, escaping SLP, and their illegal and immoral tactics, was well worth it. DON'T GO TO THIS BRANCH OF SLP. I wish on no one the experience I had working at the school. Not all SLP's are bad...but just be careful around this one. |

SLP is notorious for being a crap hole. I have a friend working in one now in Seoul, and it is crap. |

That is overgeneralizing, I have been at the same SLP for three years and I love it there. We have had 50% of the teachers there renew or extend their contracts in the past two years.
There are 45 SLPs in Korea; I cannot speak for any but the one I work at, but not all SLPs are crap holes!!!!
I am terribly sorry to hear what is happening at Bupyeong, I will mention this to our director who has some pull at Sogang University. Maybe we can end this treatment. |

You almost made it. Sorry to say it, but you lost out because you voluntarily quit. |

Haha, I worked for this exact branch about 4-5 years ago. They had
some red-haired head teacher dude back then. Anyway, they were
hard up for a teacher and they wanted to hire me full time. However,
after my first year here I have ALWAYS been freelance. Fu(k the laws.
I told them they could hire me by the hour. Back then it was 35,000KRW
or something. I told them that prep time was also to be treated as regular
work. They, at first, said no but then called me later and said yes.
Needless to say, I didn't have to do any prep. They got the full time
foreign teachers there to do it for me! haha. But, even then, the place
was morose. Talk about unhappy people. I waltzed into that place for
two hours a day for three months. I never came more than 10 minutes
early and I left never more than 5 minutes after my class ended.
The other posters are correct. Let these people have any leverage on
you and they will abuse it. |

Let me guess. He would sigh every third word, had a problem with nasal hair (as well as occasionally fitting through the door) and really loved the pork cutlet. Was known as Scuttler.
I bet you also remember Natasha, who would chuckle in a maniacal fashion. |
