I've recently started dating a Korean girl here, and this coming Saturday is her birthday. I wanted to do something kinda fun and special for it as was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a nice restaurant or something romantic to do.

A couple of co-workers suggested walking around a palace, or taking a boat down the Han, but both of those ideas require somewhat warmer weather, and I'm not 100% that we'll be able to count on that this Saturday.

Also in terms of a nice restaurant for dinner I'd really like to stay away from the Itaewon area. Though there are some nice places to eat at the hotels and whatnot I'm just sick of that place.

The revolving restaurant at namsan tower isn't too bad. Not the best food but a bottle of wine helps that.

When you make a reservation ask them if the pollution will be bad on the day you're going...

I'm a bit more traditional:

Go to the supermarket together so you can buy the ingredients you'll need to make her a meal at your place. On the way home stop off at a DVD shop and pick out a good date movie. Don't forget the candles and the Norah Jones. Wink

After dinner present her with a gift you heard her mention she would like to have. My girlfriend and I are in our 30s though, so this may not bode well for some of you young pups!

Other than that, why not ask her what she wants to do?

If the weather is nice, try a picnic at Gyeongbokgung. I took my now-wife there when we first started dating. I made a bag of sandwiches, fruit and a nice bottle of wine. We went to the little area near the Folk Museum where there are little areas for this type thing. After, we walked around the grounds and she explained the history of the palace. It was a great afternoon. We will always look back on that day and smile.

Nice. Thanks ya'll. I like the Namsan idea or the picnic. I'll have to check the weather online before the weekend.

As for asking what she'd like to do. I have tried that, and (maybe this is normal with K girls) she doesn't really want to tell me anything. Though her rationale is also that it's no fun asking if I can just take her someplace and have it be a bit more of a surprise.

Any other suggestions in case the weather sucks and it's a high pollution day?

The standard dinner at a decent place and a date movie might actually be your best bet this time of year. If you've got a comfortable couch and you're at the snuggling stage it should make for a pleasant evening. I think your chances of getting a really nice day are rather low, so I wouldn't plan a lot of outside time unless it's Friday and the weather is looking awesome.

If you remember her mentioning something she likes, a certain kind of food or flower, activity or place, then try to incorporate that. This will go over especially well if she's the type that complains you don't listen to her.

Get reservations to the Top Cloud Restaurant in the "Grill" area. Make the reservations for 6:30pm and get the buffet. Get a bottle of champagne.

Around 8 they clear the food, turn down the lights and put candles around the place. Also, they have live romantic mood jazz music.

Around 10pm after both of you have had plenty of chamnpagne and wine, you leave Top Cloud, get in a cab and go to the "Tomgi" hotel. Its right outside "Nakwon". You get the VIP room.

Once you are in the VIP room you can do many things:

1. Watch movies in the separate home theater room with big screen.
2. Watch movies on the bed on the huge plasma/LCD HD TV.
3. Take a bubble bath in the huge jacuzzi.
4. Shower and then turn on the steam sauna in the shower.
5. Mess around on the cmputer
6. Order room service aka Korean Chinese food delivery.
7. Get it on.

Top Cloud - ~250,000 won depending on how much wine you drink. A lot less of you don't drink anything.

Tomgi - 130,000 won for the VIP

I'm not sure you'd need a full 3.5 hours at the restaurant, but otherwise, sounds pretty good. If you're made of money, do that.

That definitely does sound good. I'll make notes of it, though we're still a bit early in the relationship to go dropping a few hundred on a night. But in a couple months that'll be ideal! So thanks for the details! Smile
