I'm heading to Manila in less than 2 weeks - traveling SE Asia for 2 months - and returning from Bangkok in May.

I'm flying Eva, the cheapest option out there, and total cost after taxes was 580,000 won. Plus I have to stay the night in Taiwan on my way there. Does anybody know the cost of a cheap room near the airport for a night?

I was told Eva's ICN-MNL R/T was basically the same cost, so I figured I'd save myself and not back track on my return, and just travel from ICN-MNL then BKK-ICN on Eva (with a cheap flight in between).

Philippines Airlines was slightly more if I wanted to fly direct to MNL (600,000). My travel agent didn't even quote Korean and Asiana. She has been pretty good over the past 2 years, so I didn't look elsewhere, this just seems really high for a March flight (last year was about 100,000 won cheaper).

Is anyone else noticing a spike in the airline prices recently?

There has been a spike and the high cost of fuel (fuel surcharge costs attached to your ticket) may have something to do with it.

A cheaper option may be the bus north and then fly out of Clark instead of MNL.

You could also look at Cebu Pacific as well. They fly a scheduled, charter flight from MNL to Cebu that is usually cheaper. You have to contact them directly because the Korean flights are not posted on their website.

I went to Manila at Xmas on Cebu Pacific and used frequent flyer miles from Northwest Airlines. Only 20000 miles and about 100 dollars in taxes. pretty good deal, I think.

what travel agency do you use? That sounds like a decent deal, considering roundtrips to Bangkok alone are on average about $500 lately (after tax). But a mutliple destination flight for $580 sounds good.

Try ttangcheori.co.kr. Roundtrip tickets to Manila good for 15 days is just 266,000 won plus tax. I'm not sure about May or longer stays, though.

Thanks. Great site and great prices. It seems though that these are upcoming fixed dates only a few weeks in advance.

It is fairly easy to navigate the Korean language website, however, as most destinations are readily available.

If you can't read Hangul, or are having difficulty with the site, just have a Korean friend help you. The potential savings are there. I think we often pay "fools" prices for service in English.
