Yup, I'm at the departure lounge of Incheon airport.

And why?

Because my stupid, arsehole of a boss decided that I didn't reply to her question 'nicely enough'

This all started when I exposed my boss to be stealing one of my paltry 10 days off, I should have ignored it, I could have ignored it I suppose. I was enjoying Korea, I was enjoying teaching but I couldn't turn a blind eye to a silly pisstake as to the one she was playing on me, I know she hasn't been paying medical deductions (no booklet after 5 months) thus I suspect that she wasn't paying the rest either but to keep the peace old muggins here let her off the hook because I'M A NICE GUY. Evil or Very Mad

However, ever since she was exposed as being something of a holiday thief, she has been on my case about my work, accusing me of being a liar, saying I'm unprofessional but I turned the other cheek and also offered my arse cheeks because I wasn't going to leave the job but yesterday she goes

Her: What do you think of the student diaries?

Me: Fine

And she starts to bollock me in front of the grammar teacher about my attitude, why? Because of the tone of voice I said 'fine' in! Shocked she then dismisses me out of hand like some bake!

Anyway, this state of affairs has been carrying on since the day her fradulence was exposed so I went to see her afterwards and put her straight 'you aren't behaving in a very intelligent manner in this day and age of finding FTs so why don't you be nice because I can be in Incheon airport by 9 O' Clock tonight'

She starts going off on one again about my attitude, and I start to lose it and to cut a long story short I didn't do the midnight run but my boss saw the sun shine from the heels of my shoes as I walked out of her life and in walked the bailiff! Cool (or he bloody will do soon!)

So kids... this is my farewell, I tried to work with a boss who hated losing face when cheating me but when you take me on you end up losing more face than simon weston/phantom of the opera combined, a pity really as I liked Korea but you know... pastures new and all that.

Good luck to you all and Buenos Dias - vaya con dios amigos y amigas mucho suerte en todo la vida

I won't be returning! Crying or Very sad

Wow, you're seriously leaving?

It's a shame that this one woman has spoiled your view of all of Korea. I say, should you get home and miss other aspects of the country, (the food, atmosphere, etc.), you should give it another go, but NOT, and I repeat NOT in a hogwan. They aren't really regulated as such, and are therefore, not as stable as a public school position.

In my opinion, I would suggest trying it again, but this time in the public school system. You are GUARANTEED your vacation, medical, etc without a fight, and I found for myself, it was a much more stable and professional environment. Having a set curriculum to follow (or at least loosely base your lessons upon) is a great thing, too.

Sad to hear Korea hasn't worked out well for you, as you were so excited to be arriving here it seems only a short time ago.

Good luck, and hopefully you haven't let one sketchy boss spoil your view of the country and what good there is here.

probably just as well--based on your 'rate my story' post you didn't seem to be too into the whole teaching thing anyway.

hogwans-a little less work now turns out to be a WHOLE HEAP OF TROUBLE later. Public School in Gangwon is great. Solitude and boredom not so much, but the place is very professional.

Sounds like the typical Korean boss. Good job for showing some cajones and calling her on her sht.

So many bosses think they it's okay to peck away at things from the contract; they get away with it because most FT don't show any backbone.

ITS A BLOODY STORY YOU SILLY WOMAN!

Laughing

You probably think Harry Potter is a true life account based on a British boarding school!

My kids loved ol' BK-teacher and the way he used to sing like a drowning hippo! Ask them if you don't believe me! Cool

I agree, I'll go down the PS route the next time I come here (it'll be a few years time if I do)

Shocked

You'd have a lot better luck with a public school, I'm sure. Sorry to see you go, you're one of the few people in Korea that probably should be here teaching.

Why not just wait out the visa and come back again next year? Maybe get a certificate or other qualification. There's always Japan...Taiwan...

I think she is regretting it now, you could see it in her face as I was leaving through the front door but I knew she would have screwed me worse if I'd had stayed, there was no other way if I weren't to cop a proper anal (financially of course) rogering off her in the near future or a 11 month sacking!

I like Korea, I'm angry (and tired) at the moment but that will pass and the good things about this place (if not the hagwon) will comeback, I can see me teaching PS in a couple of years around Seoul and its environs!
Cheers mate! (and to everybody else)

Does anyone ever not say, "my students loved me and will miss me" when they leave their jobs and try to justify something?

Not picking on you BK, but I just laugh everytime I read this.

Who knows what they thought of me as a person but all I can say in my defence is they enjoyed their lessons so much their friends enroled into our hagwon.

They're kids... they'll have forgotten me by teatime (unless they hear a drowning hippo to remind them of Cawos-Teacherrrrr) but I can sleep easy at night knowing I gave it my level best and I was a good teacher.

Righty ho - They are getting ready to board... best get cracking!
