So for the record Moore opposed the Afganistan war.

An entirely tenable position, which I did not share at the time but which appears more intelligent now than it did then. It appears increasingly possible that we will have traded the Taliban for something equally bad, or even worse, when all's said and done. For the record, though, I still do think Afghanistan qualified for that tiny minority of justifiable foreign wars, so you may rest easy that I do not slavishly yoke my own opinions to Michael Moore's.

Dude. You really, really, really have to stop getting your idea of liberals' opinions from Fox News, Christopher Hitchens, and the National Review. No, we do not want to "give in to the terrorists" or "beg the United Nations to protect us". We do not sympathize, even slightly or indirectly, with the goals of Islamists. We do not rape kittens, hate all that is good, or conduct midnight ceremonies designed to hasten the return of the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young. Your incessant repetition of strawman arguments is starting to remind me of Junior in the origins thread.

Not only not disavowed but tacitly embraced -- as when it attacked Petraeus's character last year as (some in) Congress's unofficial opening act...

Yep. Not all of 'em, and I'm proud that Obama didn't give in to that worthless idiot Cornyn, but enough did to pass the f***ing thing.

*Gasp*! They attacked Petraeus' character? Horrors! Don't they know that is off limits in politics? Rush Limbaugh would never, ever, ever... uh...

Yeah.

Thank you Stillnotking. That they behave just as Limbaugh behaves -- and that they command national attention from the Senate floor, no less -- is precisely my point.

Oh, it was so classy, too. "Petraeus will betray us!" See, it rhymes!

Now, the far Right wanted an apology from Hillary Clinton, for some reason. I didn't know she was affiliated with MoveOn, but whatever. The point is, the people at MoveOn have their heads too far up their asses. 'Petraeus will betray us?' I mean, c'mon. M

When democrats hang out w/ move on they give to left wing elements of the democratic party every as far from the mainstream as Rush.

Just as bad as the Taliban or worse. Why do you say so? Or How can you say so?

Stillnotking It would be fair for one to say that both Michael Moore and Move On opposed the Afghan war -yes?

I don't think you sympathize with the terrorists , on the other hand liberals don't see the the enemies of the US for what they are and they believe that the UN operates in good faith and it will protect the security of the US. PS I would say my favorite columnist is Thomas Friedman. Of the New York Times. But anyway the UN won't protect the US , unilateral disamament won't make the US safer. And the US is hated and resented because it is a hyperpower far more than for any other reason.

I think the next President will relate better to Muslims:

For the record there are plenty of other cases where US politicians where local clothes for political reasons.

I will defend Obama here cause he probably is a googl guy , not cause I agree with his politics.

The Taliban is a very popular Pashtun organization, informed as much by Sharia as the Pashtunwali legal codes. As long as the Pashtuns are around, we're going to be seeing organizations like the Taliban in southern Afghanistan and the frontier areas of Pakistan, and they're going to be wack-jobs.

That doesn't mean the US has to allow them to support Al Qaeda.

The US has to do whatever it takes put an end to it.

There's always an opportunity cost. Kill em all has been proven not to work. You have to be realistic here Joo. They're not going anywhere, they're nuts, and they hail from one of the most geo-strategic areas on Earth.

Never say never if an enemy is hit with enough force , they will quit.

I don' t know what it will take but the US ought to turn up the volume until the enemy breaks.

The US has some horribly deadly weapons (hopefully the US won't have to use them) , and there are targets the US hasn't gone after. (hopefully the US won't have to attack them.) But the US can not accept war against it.

War to steal oil is wrong , war to force the other side to give up theirs isn't.

Whatever it takes.
