Hi All,
Maybe this was a stupid mistake to make but on my recent trip to Tokyo there was no way I could exchange money outside bank hours except at the airport and the ATMs were weird and didn't give me any yen on any card.
Thought I would warn others going there. |

| even the atms at post offices? usually, only the atms at post offices accept international atm cards in japan. |

| A few years ago, I got yen through an ATM using my Canadian credit card, no problem. |

Japan is a lot like Korea - it's hit and miss but mostly miss.
Only Japanese ATM cards will work in Japanese ATM machines, most often.
Try and find a City Bank in Shinjuku or Ikebukaro or Shibuya. |

Thanks! Will be better informed in future.
Will try the post office in future....of course having an Australian card probably didn't help...better yet I will take more yen if I go again, sometimes unpredictable.. |

If you can't find a Citibank or Postal ATM, you can ask for an English speaking employee at any bank who can help you do a cash advance from your debit card. You'll need to present your passport as a form of ID.
Tokyo's a relatively easy place to visit, you just gotta know what to do and what's available. |
