I have to admit its getting better-- the new Homever/CGV theater complex/building/whatever has some decent little restaurants in it, is across from the bus station, and Ashley's on the 3rd floor has pretty good "salad bar" with fried chicken and fried shrimp, as well actual cheesecake on the desert bar.

Wow sounds like they've really built up a bit. When I get back in April its only gonna be a few weekends before I head back to the old stomping grounds to meet up with my old friends. It'll be good to see everyone again (the long termers) and see how things have changed. I'll hit the downtown on Fri/Sat evening and see who all is still left.

As you mentioned, Ashley's food bar is pretty good; I would avoid the dinners as the portions are pretty small in comparison to the price.

Pohang has a cracking soccer-specific stadium, if you're into that sort of thing. Nice and intimate, unlike the World Cup white elephants.

Lots of heavy industry in Pohang, though...

Does anyone know if US ATM cards work at the banks in Pohang? I am seeing conflicting reports in the travel books I am reading. Some say they do not work, others say they do.

Lisa3,

Depends on the ATM card and the machine -- when new teachers come to our school, they are usually popping around town to find a machine that takes their card -- last time, the local banks' machines would NOT accept their cards, but the machines in the GS25 (the 7-11-ish 24 hour stores) worked just fine. Weird, but they DID have access to their US money.

Thanks for the information, it is a relief knowing that at least some take US cards. It would be a major pain to access our account otherwise Very Happy
