Could someone help me with a computer problem, please? I can't get rid of some weird virus that I have. I think that it's a virus or a hijack or something. Let me explain the situation.

Let's say that I want to go to WorldofWarcraft.com. Instead of going there, a search page opens up (i.e. results.yahoo) instead. Then it will say, "We've found some sites that you'd like." and then it lists sites with any of the words "World of Warcraft". It will show sites where I can find maps of the world, books or videos on war, or sites with hobbies and crafts.

This stupid page opens up about 50% of the time I try to go to a website. Is there something I can download to get rid of this annoying problem?

Thanks

Start with Ad-Aware.

I used to use Ad-Aware. Try it. But there are lots of other alternatives:

Here's a thought or two:

Some web pages that are intended to be used as home pages let you use your url line as a search engine. Do you have this problem on just one web page, or on all web pages?

Many browsers let you specify a default search engine, as do some home pages. I think this might cause your url line to act like a search engine, ie, google, yahoo, etc.

So go into your preferences and look for a search engine setting.

Also, you might try cleaning out your cookies.

Does this work with all browsers?

Try installing another browser and see what happens. Or re-installing your old browser.

Opera is a fun browser to use. One reason I prefer it is that I think more viruses are aimed at IE.

Let us know what works.

Thanks, everyone -

I downloaded Ad-Aware, and I'm doing a scan now. Hopefully, things will work out.

It sounds like you need a SmitFraudFix.

This will most likely solve the problem for you.
