I would suggest avoiding the RCMP or your local PD completely. You need a Vulnerable Sector Search with the criminal record check, and in my experience, the RCMP and local PD's don't provide the VSS, only a regular Criminal record check. I had to get my VSS from a different organization, "The Commissionaires." Here is another thread where I provided the link, and there's also a link to another organization that someone else posted:

Hope that helps.

I will say it again.

If you are in Korea, and a Canadian, you DON'T need a VSS. Authorize someone in Canada to apply for a regular criminal check. Have it sent to you here in Korea, get it notarized by the Canadian Embassy, and take it to immigration renew your visa. If you are applying for a new visa, give it to your next school. Immigration and MOJ have NO idea what a VSS is. This is a regulation that some dumb pencil pusher in the Korean Embassy in Toronto has implemented. She didn't do any research on the subject, and will not notarize any Criminal check unless it is a VSS. However, the embassy in Vancouver has backed out of this regulation as it is difficult for people in that neck of the woods to get the VSS. The RCMP check will take up to 4 months, whereas the local PD one will take 1 day to 2 weeks.

If you have more questions, let me know.
