Its true that comparing policy proposals is not always accurate. Great events change things. I think this was the thrust of (Bill) Clinton's criticism of Obama when he accused the candidate of not being ready of handling a crisis.

However, divining a sense of a candidate's personality without having much policy to sift through may often be a more fruitless attempt. Policy decisions made in adversity can help define character.

Yes, many fear the unknown. I do not, I simply doubt the untested. I will say this: Obama's campaign has done well, and that too is a test. However, if a narrow campaign victory were a reliable an indicator of readiness for office, George W. Bush would have been a smashing success.
