So back in December I got my cah-duh-pon registered after many struggles trying to find a place where they'd let me do so (thank you, Yongsan), with a man won card. Checked my balance and time remaining last week, no problem, should've been good till yesterday. Soon after, went out to refill at every frickin' SK store in my neighbourhood, and there are loads of the bastards. But none of them claimed to have any knowledge about what I was after, even when I showed them the used-up card from last time.
So...
How the crap do I find an SK shop that can actually sell me a prepaid card without taking a 50-minute subway ride to Yongsan every time? Is it really all that hard to find, or am I just being given the shaft? |

I don't know exactly but sounds like you are talking about a pre-paid card for your phone?
I have a prepaid phone also and use SK Telecom - but have never used a card - I just take in my phone, pull out man won (or however much I want to load) and find my number, hand it to them and say "charge phone" and that's it -
if you're service is Sk - maybe that's all you need to do? I've seen the cards but never had to use them - maybe they don't use them any more? |

As Moosehead said, I've never bought a physical card for my phone. Only certain SK stores will sell prepaid time. I think most "SHOW" places do. The only way to know is to go into one and ask. They will often point out the one down the street if they don't do prepaid.
Good luck! |

I don't believe in engaging in cell phone contracts. |

My experience is the same as moosehead's, although I'm with KTF. I go to the store, give them my number and a man won, the girl types something into a PC, and I get a text message with the new balance. |

My school set mine up. No choice. It's SK prepaid by card. First time I had like 15k on it and it lasted me 8 weeks. Recently I've gone through like 30k in 3 weeks. Very little if any change in call volume.
Anyone know what the heck is going on or how to fix it by any chance? |

Well given the choice between no phone and free phone I can tell you I'm going to take the free one every time, even if it is a piece of crap. (Mine's like 5 years old and has cancer ) |

you can still go get your own phone you know -
the first year here I let my school sign me up - then at the end of my contract tensions rose when I discovered they weren't paying the tax they withheld from my check every month - w/i a matter of minutes my phone was disconnected as well as internet and house phone - they had co-signed on all these things -
that was fun
no matter what your school offers, if it's possible to get your own, do it, the financial cost is totally overridden by the mental security it can offer you later, trust me |

you can sign up for a plan with SK Telecom. all you need is your alien card and a 200,000 won deposit. i dont know why most people are so against paying the 200,000 won deposit. i did it last year and received my deposit back on the spot in cash when i cancelled my phone.
did the same thing this year when i moved. my plan comes out to about 25,000 won a month. |

Umm.. maybe because some of us don't use our phones enough to justify paying a deposit and a monthly bill when you can just reload prepaid minutes every couple of months. Texting costs 3 cents to send and is free to receive through SK. |
