Mindmetoo--nope...wasn't talking to anyone in particular...just providing some perspective.

Rockstarsmooth..and Littlelisa--hey I wish I was a Canadian Wink But the fact of the matter is that there are conditions of pre-employment everywhere...I'm sure if you thought about it for a moment, you could probably come up with a handful of professions in Canada that require some of my previously mentioned scenarios.

And Littlelisa...my information is not incorrect...just inaccurate as it applies to Canadians...probably a few other nationalities as well...is your information correct as it applies to Americans??

And only a month to get your CHRC/CBC Littlelisa...we've known that this day was coming, since December for myself, maybe a little earlier than that for others. These regs didn't materialize yesterday...a couple of FedEx or DHL packages later, and you could've easily obtained your documents by now...as many other Canadian citizens have noted in other threads. If you were only approached by your job recently to re-sign...well I can understand your predicament...but...if you had any intentions of finding another job, or re-signing with your current position, you're going back home because you displayed the often cited Korean trait of being unprepared and unable to plan ahead.

What I meant was that your information was incorrect as far as those requirements that you cited being the case for all the teachers. But yes, I presume you are right if you are talking to Americans only. I certainly wouldn't know better about the US regs.

Also, my contract was not set to finish at the end of February. It was set to finish in the middle of October. So yes, one month's notice.

My math may be off...but...Feb 28th today...did you extend in October?? Am I missing some important information??

But again...I can certainly go through and sift through some posts of other Canadians that lurk here on Dave's...I've read plenty of comments that stated CBC's from Canada are pretty darn quick...I'm not buying your four month quote...sorry...

As for my information applying to all teachers...well I did say "try selling that to all 50 states," clearly implying an American context...on the off chance that I was addressing a fellow American.

My contract was from mid October to mid October.

I was given 30 days notice of dismissal at the beginning of Feb. Not like it's uncommon. Anyway, they said that they don't have enough money to keep me on. They were going to give me a letter of release, etc. I asked my sister to apply for my criminal check. Then a week later, they said they wouldn't give me a letter of release, and tried to screw me out of the agreement they made with me one week earlier. Things were up in the air, and I had to make plans for SOMEthing, so I decided to take a month's vacation and go home rather than continue my job search. At the same time, my sister said that it would take 4 months for the CBC. So I finalized my plans to go home. Finally, things worked out alright at work. But things were definitely done last minute on their side.

When my sister went to apply for my criminal check, they said it would take 4 months. If I'm wrong, it's not because I made up a random amount of time. Why are you so insistent on proving that I have no foresight?

But that's all aside from the point. SO LONG, SUCKER! I'm off Sunday morning.

Nope. It's the thread for Escapees, Deportees, Runners and anyone else who's managed to bust outta of the Republic. Ex-Republicans. There have been a few biggies recently, and I'd like to keep track of them and their movements in case of any unpaid phonebills or parking fines.

going back a bit, AlyAllen

Who else?

Outta here on Monday morning.

Did you guys add uberscheisse to that list? I just saw he's off to Japan tomorrow.

Damn... would the last one out, please turn off the lights?? Shocked

I think the last time there was a mass-exodus like this, it was due to the IMF situation.

I had no idea so many long-timers were leaving Korea. Wow. That just sucks. It kind of makes you wonder -- if these guys are leaving, how many of the untold masses are taking off that we don't know about?

I feel for you guys who are saying you don't feel like spending any more money in this country, with the way we're being treated due to new and unspoken banking laws. Believe me, I feel for you.

I do wish you all well. I will miss Dogbert's one-liners, and mindmetoo's posts in general.

Hey Crazylemongirl, what are you doing these days?

not really, and nothing much will change. the current crop of newbies will in turn become old-timers. and then there will be a new batch of cherries wanting to know where to buy tortillas and if they need to bring sheets or not.

Sad tzechuk, that makes it sad!

I'm kind of torn about leaving to be truthful.

On one hand, I've had a lot happen at home this year that I wasn't around for, and I feel like I should have been with my family for some things.

On the other hand, it's been really hard saying goodbye to the great people at my school.

Torn.

As I said earlier, Korea may see me again at some point.
