I'm sure this has been raised before, but I can't figure out the search function well enough, so please bear with me if you've read this 50 times before.
I want to open an account with a bank that will freely allow to withdraw money from it in any country. My contract is ending soon and rather that wait around I was hoping that there was a bank where I can have my school transfer my final pay and bonus to, and from which I can withdraw the money from my home country.
I know there is Citibank, HSBC (I think). Any others?
Any help is appreciated. |

Unfortunately I get my pay directly deposited in KB.
How has everyone else got around this problem? |

Good luck...
But, if you have a friend you really really really trust, maybe you can get your friend to transfer the money for you.
I'd be willing to do it for a 90% fee |

I really hate to be a party pooper and maybe you're lucky enough not to consider this point, but what if they DON'T PAY?
It's happened to me. It was partly because they knew everyone had left the country.
It turned up about a month later after all of us complained to them. It left me high and dry at home for a while I thought it wasn't coming.
Good Luck! |

Well, go into your bank and ask for an international bank card that you can use while you travel. If they say it's illegal than show them this article:
http://news.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2007/05/25/2007052501053.html
which clearly explains in Korean that it isn't illegal for you to receive an int'l card. If they still refuse, boycott said bank. Withdrawl all of your money and close down the account. Head over to either a hana bank or a nonghyup bank (kb star was always supposed to be good but I've heard bad things recently) and ask about opening an account and int'l bank cards (keep the article in hand just in case).[/url] |

Isn't your employer required to pay you before your contract expires.
I have a bank account at Sandard Chartered and they gave me an international ATM card. You might want to give them a try. I also have a Samsung card that draws directly out of my account. |

This has been hashed over and over. There's this nasty rumor that you can get an international card at Standard Chartered Bank. You can try at other banks but it's at their descretion. Dress nice, act proffesional, and see what you get. Just because something isn't illegal doesn't mean the HAVE to do it. I just talked about this with a student of mine who works for a bank.
CitiBank WILL NOT allow you to access your funds from abroad, even if you have a Citibank account in another country. I know, I've tried. You can try HSBC but I hear it's the same story.
Anyway, my student says you can have someone you trust wire your money but they need a letter from you that has a photocopy of your passport or ARC card stating what you want them to do and has your actual signiture, AND the paperwork presigned by you. |

KEB, mind you you won't be able to use it as an atm would be used. For example, I have my remitt foreign bank in my Thai acct. so i can get on line and transfer funds from anywhere but can only receive them in my Thai bank. luckily, I have an int atm card w/ my Thai bank. Make sense?
Why don't you just get an International ATM card from a Korean bank. It's easy, I have three. |

Just don't get Woori Bank.
Never.
They treat foreigners the worst, and their fees are high. |
