I'm going back to the States tomorrow for a couple of weeks and would like to take my laptop. Is there an adapter that I can use that's fairly cheap and easy to carry? I have an adapter at my place here in Korea, but it weighs about 5kg and converts from 110V to 220V, so I need something that converts from 220 to 110. Thanks

What does the label say on your power brick?

My power brick says 100-140VAC.

That means it'll work anywhere.

So all I needed was a simple prong addapter from us type prong to korean type prong.

The prong adapter is good for Computers and such that have a universal power brick.

Don't use the prong adapter for hairdryers and pencil sharpeners.

220 -> 110 is easier than 110 -> 220, you can get an adapter for about $20 that'll handle most stuff. Check your laptop power supply, some handle 110 - 240V input (most of my electronics do this). You might only need to buy the plug adapter and not a power adapter.

The brick says 100-240V. I guess I'm just looking for a cable that I will be able to plug into the brick and the socket.

You need a round plug (korean plug) to flat plug (American) adapter.

They are available at Alpha stationary (among about a million other places including your favorite chunwon store).

They cost about 300-500 won each. I think you live in Poonglim@ (Seohyun) and I got a few of them there at Alpha last week before I left on this holiday.

The stationary shop next to KFC has them too.

I just wanted to make sure that will work and won't short circuit anything on the computer. I'll head down there and pick one up. Thanks

Yeah you just need a plug converter. It's not really a cable, its just something you attach to the plug so you can plug it into the American wall sockets. You can pick up one at Radio Shack for real cheap

If the power adapter says 100-240V, there should be no problems in regards to power anywhere in the world. Unless it's a false claim! But I doubt it -- the 100-240V has been a standard feature of laptops for years

BUY THE PLUG BEFORE YOU LEAVE!

I can't say about the US, but when I went to Canada, I forgot to take one with me. Buying one in Canada was about $10!

Aye, they're a much better deal here.

I bought an mp3 player, and was offered a USB power adapter for 5,000 won. I asked for one set for 100-240 V, and they tossed in the converting plug for free. They're nice and cheap here.

Oops! Embarassed

My bad. Sorry about the wrong picture, but I'm sure the OP had figured that out by himself anyway.
