I just wanted to know who is going to SMOE Orientation.
I turned in a late application 2 weeks ago and got the E-2 Visa just today .
I guess I need book a flight.
But I might not make orientation till mid-week.
Isnt that where we find out where we work.

Anyways, anyone else going?

The plane ticket is something you should be talking SMOE or your recruiter about, not new SMOE hires.

OP don't worry. Orientation was cancelled this year. Teachers are being given a week to sort themselves out in Seoul then being taken to their respective schools.

I just got in last night. They picked us up from the airport, had signs, the whole shebang. Very smooth/easy transition/pickup. I used Footprints and their agent Scott met me at the airport, asked about my flight, etc. Really this was a very nice process all in all, for me at least. I think everybody is jet lagged today so there won't be much in terms of instruction/information. Which is nice b/c I had a seat next to the can, and got exactly 0 sleep on the plane.

Don't expect any until the day you finally observe a real foreign teacher in action, or when you teach on the first day in your school.

So should I bother showing up to train and lecture for 2 days????

.....amazing thing to say Bibbity. Please feel free to come and take in what I've planned. The last group of 250+ teachers were more than satisfied with what I offered and instructed. I'll be more than happy to accept your criticism ex post facto but not otherwise.

Pkang, I met the people from the Hyundai center on Thurs. Still waiting on it....(schedule).

"this guy" carries a bigger stick and a brighter wick. But if you have something that will stick re - my posts, please elaborate. I have always done more than just blather about like Steve and give teachers real stuff that matters to their classrooms. I've posted enough on this board over the years for others to know I'm not just a "look at me, look at me, Stevie wannabe."

Yes, I know about that and went through a terrible one when I first came over (the first intake). And there are still bumps and hiccups along the way of course. I'll post up my 6 hour lecture outline and see what you think . My philosophy is to get the teachers discussing among themselves. There are enough great teachers with experience here and elsewhere to really "spread the warmth around". In between that, I just keep people motivated with lots of catchy multi media and ideas. The only really "heavy" part is a solid half hour on coteaching dynamics.

Didn't you get the email? A new approach was needed to save time and money. So, this year orientation will be held at a different bar every day to cut out the middleman. This way you can drink and listen to
presentations at the same time. Lunch will be nachos, chips, dips, and popcorn. Dinner will be burgers and fries. There will be a two drink minimum per person for each presentation. No one can leave until after
the nightly wet t-shirt contest. Then everyone must report to Room 903 for further partying.

My room mates don't know how to flush a toilet. This morning I had a surprise, and before dinner there was an even worse surprise.
