A few months back I went with my co-teacher to make a phone account at KTF. This of course took 3 hours (not an exaggeration) of them going back and forth on whether or on a foreign can get a non prepaid phone. Finally, his good buddy who worked there jumped and and we got it squared away. Oh yes, and when I switched from LG to KTF I couldn't keep my phone number because LG had my name logged wrong.
One little catch. I had to let them deduct the money from my account (I guess that's BC card). They said this was because foreigners may run away from the country and not pay their cash bill, so they want to take the money every month. Luckily, I still had my Hana Bank card that had that. I would have used my Daegu Bank account but surprise surprise they wouldn't let me get one (that's an entirely DIFFERENT issue!) I was a bit reticent to do this, I really don't like money taken automatically from my account.
flash forward a few months. Luckily for me, I didn't have to worry about KTF taking money from my account. They've never deducted the money from my account at all! so I've had to go into the bank to pay, which has always been a one or more hour affair once I get to the counter.. Today, the bank tells me they can't do it because my bill says BC CARD on it, therefore they can't take cash. They call KT to talk to them, and finally relent and do some long bank-transfer form. I asked her why can't they let me pay cash...they said because a foreigners may run away from the country and pay the bill. I asked her to ask them why my BC card won't work, she asks...laughs (embarrassingly) and says "because you're a foreigner).
So in recap. I was told I can't pay by cash because I'm a foreigner.
I was then told that they won't take the money automatically, because I'm a foreigner. Sparkling? |
