hi all,
I'm korean american in nyc.
I want to teach english in korea for a year but I'm not familiar with different locations in korea.
I've talked to a recruiter and she has told me she has a position in ilsan but i figure it'll be similar to nyc but with more koreans...(modern concrete jungle)
I would like to be located where the air is cleaner and there's wilderness in the area where I can go hiking, mountain climbing, trail running...etc. At the same time, I need a place where I can meet people around my age(25). From what I understand, real country place has none because they all leave to go into the cities.
Am I looking into something that doesn't exist? Does it have to be one or the other?(big city or really country?)
I would like an advice from those in korea who has been to different places.
Thank you for reading this and I'll be looking foward to your advices. |

Good news.
Ilsan probably comes as close as any place in the country for what you are looking for. |

You should consider Kangwha Island. It's connected to the mainland by a bridge, 70 minutes from Seoul, plenty of smallish mtns, good food.
Good views of a fake nork town, plenty of good hiking, lots of cool coffee houses all over the countryside with great views of the coast. I remember sitting in a traditional style teahouse on a foggy, rainy day - it had big picture windows with a view of some cliffs and the sea. Impressive temple there too. Bomunsa, one of Korea's oldest.
downside: Very little time to get out of harms way if the Norks attack. |

yeah i am moving to ilsan on tuesday/wednesday (long flight but can't wait!!) and from what i have heard and read it has cleaner air, a huge park, an outdoor gym and lots of outdoorsy stuff.
it is concrete jungle mixed with nature...i guess kind of like nyc if you lived close to central park. |

| I've spent one day in Ilsan, and I thought that it was pretty nice. I'm currently looking for jobs in Ilsan and Bundang. The Lake Park is great, but I've never seen the outdoor gym. If the outdoor gym is like any other outdoor gym in Korea, then it's a big joke. Does anyone have any pictures of those weird devices that pass as exercise equipment? Then again, Korea doesn't have the obesity problem that America has, so they're doing something right. |

If it's Saint Andrew's Hagwon in Ilsan I'd sign the contract immediately before someone else gets the job.

| If you want to fresh air, mountains, and country to trek around in, why not go to Kangwon-do? |
