My first full day in Korea, I plugged in my Wii via my travel step-down converter and the adapter on the Wii popped, so I'm thinking I had a bum converter.

I'm assuming that the Wii is OK and the transformer is shot, but I have no evidence.

Has anyone had this problem before? Is there a place I can get a universal Wii adpater in Seoul or Suwon? (I'm in Yongin for a week), or maybe a true converter for US circuit electronics? Thanks all.

Wii hasn't been officially released in Korea. so finding the power adaptor might be difficult. you could try going to the najin arcade and ask around.

if you can't find one, you can order this Universal-AC-Power-Adapter ( international shipping is available ). just use the plug below and your all set.

This is all you need. 19,000 and they are everywhere.

I would NOT use one of those with any expensive electronics. I used one three years ago on an electronic toothbrush and it nearly melted the base charging unit of the toothbrush. You need to get something like the picture in Demophobes post. Plan to spend 20-40,000 at Emart or Lotte Mart

tractor linked to a unit that will serve the correct and same function as the one in my post, but mine is in Korea (no Ebay) and very easy to get. That is all I pointed out to the OP. Also, the adapter in tractor's post will be needed, I believe.

tractor's post was right on, but going through Ebay is not necessary.

To use only what is in the picture in tractor's post will indeed lead to a meltdown unless your unit has universal power; it will take from 110v to 240v.

So the doh-ran-suh will cover all the bases while here without a step-down converter? I do have an adapter, just no converter. Thanks for the info.

Doh-ran-suh : 도란스 is a step-down voltage converter (220-110v). the adaptor only changes the plug type, not the voltage. so if you didn't use the step-down converter, you probably blew the AC adaptor on your WII.

If he is lucky. Could always have fried the Wii

I used a step-down plus the adapter, but it says "don't use w/ circuitry electronics" on the converter, so either it was a piece of sh** or I shouldn't have tried it w/ the wii. The guys in the room down from me were using just an adapter with no step-down at all with their American wii and it worked fine for about an hour, so go figure on that.

Does the doh-ran-suh have a built in adapter? Its moot as I have one already but it'd be nice to get another one.

Doh-ran-suh has the NA/JP input plug type, so you won't need to buy those adaptors.

Same thing happened to me. I blew my Wii on my first day in Korea (and then my 360 on my last). I replaced the brick and it ran fine through one of those tiny plug-to-plug converters for a while, but I decided to quit while I was ahead and only use it with the transformer. Just get one of those big transformer dealies and you'll be fine.

Where's a good place to get a transformer in Yongsan? In one of the booths? Or is there a larger store I'm unaware of? I'm still without my wii, and it's horrible!

I'm pretty sure they repair it. If you go to the seventh floor, they'll do it. They said that they don't sell them, though, or that they're sold out. I got pissed and through mine out though. Does anyone know of a place I could order online to get a new power cord, either Korean compatible or American? I have a converter so either way it's doable.
