The media stated that we were in for a blast of yellow sand today. (March 2nd) Looking out my window it doesn't really appear to have come. Is anybody else reporting yellow sand? The weather service website shows it to be pretty thich down south right now, but only one automated weather station is reporting higher levels. |

It's at 867 in Gwangju and I just got a Nate Air message about it. Sucks, but I have to go out!

It's here in Daegu. It was sunny in the morning up to noon, and then the yellow haze started coming in. It is coming on pretty strong now, a yellow overcast afternoon. |

The TV just said tonight and tomorrow will be bad in Seoul.
Better pick up a mask, and shower often.
Toxic content of yellow sand, from Wikipedia:
Sulphur (an acid rain component), soot, ash, carbon monoxide, and other toxic pollutants including heavy metals (such as mercury, cadmium, chromium, arsenic, lead, zinc, copper) and other carcinogens, often accompany the dust storms, as well as viruses, bacteria, fungi, pesticides, antibiotics, asbestos, herbicides, plastic ingredients, combustion products as well as hormone mimicking phthalates. Though scientists have known that intercontinental dust plumes can ferry bacteria and viruses, "most people had assumed that the [sun's] ultraviolet light would sterilize these clouds," says microbiologist Dale W. Griffin, also with the USGS in St. Petersburg. "We now find that isn't true." |

Surely kimchi would combat viruses carried by the yellow dust, just like the SARS Virus, no? |

[quote="reactionary"]i'm in seoul and thought it smelled a bit "off" today..more than usual anyway. also it's not very clear out, so it's possible...
i was thinking the same thing. the smell has gotten more intense as the evenings progressed too. it's going to be a disgusting wait at the bus stop tomorrow. |

Oops! Bit late for me. I was legging it round today playing football.
Just looked at the nearest cities to me on the Korean Weather link and it was only about 200. Although Chupungnyeong further west was showing 550. So I might be ok, although my throat does feel a little gritty. |
