As per the subject.. would it be ok to bring a shisha and tobacco into Korea (from the UK)?

I know it's not illegal but would it be ok with customs?

Thanks!

it's hard to say what customs may or may not do. i've brought in way over the allowance of liquor in the past and nothing has come of it. i also brought in four new computers last fall for myself, my fiance, her brother, and her folks. once again, not a hint of trouble or threat of import tax. customs officials rarely seem to glance at the declaration forms here.
however, a shisha seems like an item that's not only large, but probably very foreign to most koreans. i'm sure it'd result in a great deal of confusion for anyone who stumbled upon, and likely confiscation. you can certainly give it a shot, but i think it'd be safer to hit one of the many shisha spots in hongdae or itaewon when you arrive and see what the owners or managers can tell you about picking one up in country. either way, best of luck!

Yes, no problem. Don't worry about it.

New shisha water pipes come apart very easily and can be stored in a nice very small case.

I just brought one back from Canada no problem. If you're that worried, then you can buy them in Korea. However, expect to pay 100% more.

Hi,

Shishas are fine just don't bring in the charcoal as carry on baggage as it is considered a banned substance. The charcoal can be in checked baggage, though, no problem. Brought mine from Egypt this January and so did several friends.

Also, I'll give a plug for the best hookah bar in Korea. It's called Gr8, it's in Hongdae above Ska. They have 46 flavors of hookah and tons of drinks.

Thanks for the replies.. I'll bring it with me. Is it ok to bring the tobacco too? It looks a little suspicious in its little clear bag.. smells kinda fruity, but I don't know what customs may think.

Anyone know how much the tobacco stuff is in Korea?

Fad? It's not a pink shirt, flipped collar thing. It has a long history in the Middle East. I guess drinking ale is also a gay fad, eh?
