Hippies have absolutely no power in Singapore. It is much better for it.

You should have said up front that you're a fascist. It would have prevented the waste of time of trying to reason with you.

Not hippie = fascist! har har!

In Singapore, if you rape they will cane your ass and then you'll spend no less than 8 years in jail (average sentence is 14 years) with zero chance of early release. If you murder, they cane you repeatadly and then they execute you. 6 homocides out of 4.5million people in 2006, all solved. The city is perfectly safe because of this. The system might not be perfect, but at least it works.

Actually, he claims to be a libertarian and is an admitted drug user. So I believe severe hypocrisy would be the worst you could accuse him of.

Different cultures will have different ways of finding peace and prosperity. I'm not going to judge the Singaporeans for how they keep a city safe, clean and wealthy. They do what they do, and it works. And drugs, well, the punishments for drug use in Singapore are either life in jail or death and definite caning either way. I stick to the beer.

Now, if a bunch of Singaporeans tried to introduce caning in Canada by rioting and blowing stuff up, I'd be quite opposed to that and would agressively argue against it. Such is life.

I know this because the Discovery Channel said so.

Then discovery channel is stupid and wrong. How come the area 2km away from Singapore isn't rich? How come Indonesian and Malaysian villages aren't centers of prosperity? They're central to India and China too.

Singapore is a free, capitalist country. Capitalist countries that respect individual rights are the richest countries, whether people want to recognize capitalism as the best system of government or not.

In order to be rich, a country must respect individual rights. To the degree that it does, the better off the people will be--all of them.
