The next veggie club meeting is at Petra's, which serves terrific Palestinian/Middle Eastern food.

RSVPs are strongly recommended, as we packed out the place last time, and ran out of chairs. I'll reserve a good number of seats, but f you don't RSVP, I can't guarantee there will be room for you, so please let me know ASAP!

Directions:
Subway Directions: From Noksapyeong Station, take the elevator and go up the stairs of the pedestrian overpass. You will see Petra about 50 meters to the right after crossing the street.

If youre in Itaewon, you can walk to Petras. Walk toward Noksapyeong Station (toward McDonalds and Star Market, etc.,) on the right side of the street. Follow the lane up the hill and around to the right. Youll see Petras on your right when youve reached the top of the hill. The door is up the stairs on the left-hand side of the restaurant.

If this doesnt make sense, you can call the restaurant: 790-4433 for more help.

I miss Yve's "Canadian Veggie Bacon" (and "Veggie Pepperoni" ....)

One reason I like SM Ching hai is that nearly half their buffet includes various faux meat products (made by the Korean company "Vegefood") among the ingredients.

I've gathered that especially many women vegetarians don't like to be reminded of meat textures or flavors, while most men vegetarians agree with me that they're harmless, healthy, high-protein substitutes for the burgers, steaks, and "nuggets" that most of us grew up on.

Anyway, "kermo" has designated me as a "veggie deputy" for this gathering (I'm sorta like a fat Barney Fife ...)

I'll be stationed at Yanjiae Station exit 5 (at the top of the stairs unless it's raining) from about 12:35 till 12:50 to help people find the right bus stops and buses ...

Anyone's welcome to join us - even at the last minute (as long as you don't bring any real meat with you ...)

Although this thread (posted kind of at the last minute by the otherwise flawless "kermo") apparently drew no responses from regular forum posters save for me (the "deputy) it actually attracted most of the 13 new members who showed up at SM Ching hai.

I thought the gathering featured very nice people and very good food - and I didn't even make it to Purely Decadent for dessert/coffee...

SM is under new ownership now, isn't it? Is the food any different?

It was my first time having soy ice cream and I was pleasantly surprised. I was really pleased to get to know some of the members better too. What a cool crowd.

I don't know that SM Ching hai has changed ownership - I thought they changed managers, but I'm not really sure of that.

I thought one girl assistant manager was new - but she's been there over a year (I easily forget what people look like if I don't see them regularly...)

The food quality is about the same or a little better than it's always been. It's about 95%vegan. She pointed out a couple items that had casein (milk protein) for the benefit of two members who were concerned about it.

Thanks, I used to be a regular until a few months ago when I saw the staff/owners packing up and moving out ... they said the restaurant would reopen in a few days under new management/ownership (I'm not sure which). I haven't been back since (just because I've moved, and it's out of my way), but it's nice to know that they still have good food.

Thanks so much for coming out to last night's potluck and making it so damn delicious (I ate way too much.)

So, this is the veggie club gig this Sunday afternoon ...

April 6th- La Salsa Loca (now called Casa Loca, but under same management), at Yeouido, at 1:00 pm
review here:http://www.1stopkorea.com/reader-lasalsaloca-review.htm
website here, including menu in Korean and English: http://casaloca.co.kr/

This location is a bit out of the way, but everything I hear about this restaurant says it's worth the trip. Also, we can hit Yeouido park afterwards and kick a soccer ball/throw a frisbee if the weather is nice.

La salsa loca is located near Yeouido Station, Subway Line No.5, Exit No.4. Go straight up 200 meters, turn left at the first traffic light and keep going straight for another 30 meters. It'll be on your right on the first floor.

If the weather looks good (and my knee holds up) maybe I'll bring my baseball bat and ball - both made of hard foam rubber ...

The weather looks gorgeous! Looking forward to enjoying the cherry blossoms and maybe taking a boat ride after the lunch. Hope to see lots of you there!

Er... what time would you like people to gather there?

... On the Facebook Seoul Veggie Club site it states 6:30 - 9:30

- while on the Seoul Vegetarian Club site it's listed as 5:30.

Also, I don't think i mentioned the time at all on the mail-out.
It's been a looooong week.
Thanks for pointing that out, though!

"Kermo" is the executive organizer who outlines events with far-reaching vision, and I assist by helping with minor details...

To promote veggie club events in the "general" forum, I've decided to regularly bump an old thread which contains a lot of information about surviving as a vegetarian in Korea:
