Does anyone know if it's possible for a Filipino to get a (tourist?) visa to Korea? I've heard that they need an invitation letter.

I'm not sure about the Phillipines, but from other S.E. Asian countries, an invitation letter AND a W50,000,000 bond is necessary... after all, she may try to claim refugee status. Rolling Eyes

It is virtually impossible to bring a Pinoy G/F here. Wife visas are easy but a C3 for a Pinoy who does not have family/husband here as the invitee is unlikely.

The good news is that the application for visa confirmation is FREE so it costs you nothing to try (other than the running around to get her documents).

There are only three ways a Filipina can get a VISA to Korea.

1. If she's a hooker.
2. A factory worker.
3. She's your wife.

I was told by immigration that it's impossible any other way.

Wow, isn't it possible for them to come here as tourists?

They can get a student visa if they are accepted into a university Korean language program.

How easy/expensive is that? Is prior knowledge of Korean required?

What is the point in the visa agreements then between Asian countries if they don't let people in without them? Is it just a big lie to make Korea look good and then turn around and not let any of the poorer countries in?

Not since the Korean government became much stricter in it's policy toward granting tourist VISA's to people from 3rd world countries. They were coming here on a tourist VISA and then working illegally.

I've heard it's possible if you act as a 'guarantor'. Anyone know is this is possible?

I brought my wife in iniitally and I guaranteed her stay here.

Another ex-Thai TEFL'r brought his GF in with a letter inviting her from his school.

Can you go and meet her in Fpines and bring her back?

Hopefully the guarantee thing will work. I can't go back to the Philippines till June due to work, but hopefully that won't make any difference.

Problem is that there is no visa waiver agreement for Filipinos to come to Korea (unlike the one established with Thailand).

Visas are required and unless they are invited by family who are here legally and who would be legally responsible for them, virtually impossible to get (too high an incidence of Filipino C3, D4, D9, D10 applicants becoming illegal immigrants).

Interesting.

Shame they didn't show my missus the respect she was due for the visa waiver.

I had thought that it was all ASEAN countries that were in it.

I invited my sister in law to come visit 2 years ago. She got the tourist visa. Second time around they denied her. Basically any filipino has to show they are millionaires in the philippines and have reasons for going back. Sometimes it the roll of the die.
