Doesn't matter if there's one there or not if the OP's planning on accessing his US account here. The local bank is just that: local. It's a Korean bank in Korea even though it has the same name and some of the same corporate ownership in charge. |

Exactly. International laws bar us the convenience of being able to use the same account in two different countries, so even if there was a Bank of America in Seoul (which I don't think there is), it's not like it would do him any good. |

I think the Bank of America location in Seoul isn't anything more than a corporate office established for global presence purposes. You won't be able to do any banking there. I tried calling them when I got to Seoul. It's not a bank proper, if I recall. I'm pretty sure about this, but I could be wrong. |

If you have a military friend who can escort you, you can access BOA from one of the many ATMs that are located on any military base. |

Ya, they only have BoA ATMS on bases. Other than that, there are no branches or ATMS in Korea. Don't think about using your BoA checkcard in Korea either. They charge an additional fee for every purchase. |

The Army Community Bank is whichever US bank happens to have the current contract with the US military for on-base banking services overseas. |

ummm.....well, it is/was (whatever) an actual bank that was right near the shopette and the Galloria on Main Post (I remember using it several times the first time I went over as a ESL teacher when I still used my American bankcard and I had some funds in it to help me get start-up in Korea- Thank GOD for the DoD transition ID I had at the time that allowed me to go onbase or else I would be VERY screwed for money, especially with the banking rules Korea has now~ shivers-). And it was even seperate from the Armed Forces Bank, let alone BoA.....couldn't miss it, especially on the first and fifteenth of every months with those HUGE lines.....(but then again, every ATM on every post had HUGE lines on payday.....alot of GIs sometimes just waited until the next day or the day after to draw money to avoid the giant lines...horrendous)
....But given the way they are trying to curb costs onbase, I wouldn't be surprised if BoA did take over use of the 'old' Army Community Bank building......
The point is, though, it is kinda' sad that a "business hub", which Korea claims to be, don't have as many foreign banks and finiancial services as, say, Shanghai, where there are banks like Citibank and Wells Fargo AND Bank of America, not to mention HSBC and I heard UBS is possibly going there......
Oh! shucks!.....I forgot.........................
