Not exactly a new "theory", and not really a theory at all, just speculation.
You don't need psychotropic drugs to have visionary experiences. People have them all the time during meditation and prayer. The frontiers of mystical experience aren't well-understood and probably won't be, ever. Some things are not amenable to rational explanation. |

Well, all theories are just speculation, until proven, but in the case of Moses, it would offer an alternative to the commonly held belief that "god" spoke to him without Moses being high on drugs. As for rational explanations, religions are built on their believers accepting irrational explanations based on "faith". A well-supported claim by a researcher, if in fact it is well-supported, would chip away at the beliefs of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim religions. Maybe the reason why there hasn't been a second-coming is not enough clergy are doing psychotropic drugs? |

An equally strong or even stronger case could be made for schizophrenia. See the Book of Ezekiel. |

Moses was probably also on drugs when he saw the "burning bush," suggested Shanon, who said he himself has dabbled with such substances. |
I guess he was probably smoking the bush.

Speculation by an admitted substance abuser. |
