|

I plug an SD card into my USB port via a caddy. Firewire has a way faster transfer rate, I think than USB 2.0. Any idea if such caddies are available for the firewire port? |

Well USB 2.0 hi-speed is technically faster than 1394a, but not 1394b. Chances are you're on regular 2.0 anyway though, so yeah the firewire will be faster regardless.
HOWEVER, I believe there are only a few SD cards that are faster than USB 2.0 (non hi-speed) and none even close to as fast as hi-speed, so you wouldn't see any difference unless you were previously using the fastest SD card on normal usb 2.0.
So basically just look for a hi-speed 2.0 hookup (provided your computer has hi-speed) |

^ correct about the USB 2.0 card reader.
one thing that also determines speed is the actual read/write on the SD card.
Rating Speed (MB/s)
6x 0.9
40x 6.0
66x 10.0
133x 20.0 |

..and what of speed nomenclature.
Not every manufacturer label the SD card as 6x 40x ect.?
I have one that is labeled Class 2 (Panasonic)
and another as Ultra II (SanDisk).
Is there no standard labeling? |

unfortunately there are no standards in labeling only the technology. might be because of potential false advertising. just like when people started to sue about hard disk specs vs actual size ( 250 GB is really 232GB ). or maybe the speeds are determined by the device. could be anything.
your cards are fast and of high quality, so you have nothing to worry about |
