Hi everyone, I'm planning a short holiday to Fukuoka just for 2 nights, and I was wondering how little it is possible to get by on, also, what is the average cost for a trip (not including hotel/ferry) for someone who would like to do a little shopping or looking around, plus go out and have a few drinks at night. Trying to figure out how much I need to save up, I've tried doing searches but couldn't find much, it was quite scattered. I know that Japan is expensive but just how much?
And is it true that the hydrofoil only takes three hours?

I paid around 3,500 yen at the Khaosan Fukuoka Hostel, last September. They have a website where you can book ahead. Yes, it's only about 2 hours on the Beetle hydrofoil. Expense is only marginally dearer than Korea. Use the subway, & avoid taxis (which are MUCH more expensive than Korea).

The Fukuoka Tower, Tochoji Temple & Sofukuji Temple & Canal City are all worth a look. Some pics I took:

Yes, the Beetle takes 3 hours. Unless stayting at Khosan Fukuoka, budget Y5500-10,000 per night for hotel. A decent restaurant meal (dinner) will cost around Y2000 + drinks. Lunch meals at a Japanese restaurant are usually less than Y1000. Of course, McDonalds and such are roughly the same as here. If you get on the bus from Fukuoka port, ask the bus driver for a Y1000 bus card (you get Y1100, just say "sen yen busoo card-o onegaishimasu" and hand him a Y1000 note). You can also get day passes of the subway at the ticket machines in station for Y600/day (Y500 on Fridays). This is no good for the Nishitetsu train and anything beyond Meinohama Station on the Kuko (airport) subway line but is good for the new Nanakuma Line. Night outs are expensive but places like Happy Cock, FUBAR (basically anywhere on Oyafuko dori) have cheap drinks. Typical draft beer is Y500 and cocktails are upwards of Y1200 outside of happy hour. Pick up a Fukuoka Now magazine at most expat bars, int. organizations etc for a list of bars and whatnot. Any specific questions, let me know (I lived in Fukuoka for 6+ years).

If I leave Korea with a tourist visa from Busan and take the ferry with a return ticket, will it be okay to 'renew' my visa on the way back?

Get a re-entry permit before you go.

Or, get yourself a multiple entry visa.

Better safe than sorry.

You can get a re-entry permit at Busan Port, for 30k won, or a multiple re-entry permit for 50k won.

You CAN'T get a multiple re-entry visa at the Port of Busan as of 1 month ago. I was going through immigration heading for Fukuoka and was jerked out of line because I did not have a re-entry visa. I bought a single-entry visa because they do not offer multiples at the port. Unless something has changed in the last 4 weeks...

Thanks for the update, cangel. It was August 2006, when I last went through Busan Port.
