|
|
I am being called by recruiters/schools frequently as I'm in the job hunting process BUT I have no idea if any of these places have good reputations or are good, solid places to work. Can anyone give me some names of good schools in Daegu???
Thanks! |

| Yale Academy has an over-all very good reputation but many of their new teachers have to work Saturdays. Moonkang (sp.?) Academy is also pretty sound as far as hagwons go. |

| Hakwons all blow. Go for a public school job if possible. If you have to go to a hakwon, hold out for a salary increase. |

Not all hogwans blow. What a stupid thing to say. I know plenty of people having a shoddy time a public schools.
As i said in your other thread, OP, I know a great company to work for in Daegu.
Right now they are offering a 500,000won signing bonus if you pass the medical.
Pay is 2.3.. and never a day late.
Vacation is 17 days plus national holidays.
Teachers choose their own texts, and design their own lessons.
There is a foreign teacher liaison on staff to take care of setting up utilities, dealing with immigration and all the settling in.
They will also hold your apartment for a month at the end of your year if you want to vacation before renewing.
And, if you don't like it, they will not hold the release letter over your head, and make you jump for it.
I won't post the name publicly. The reason is obvious. |

How many contact hours?
Why is the pay only 2.3 if even a newbie has to develop their own lessons, including choosing materials. Other places pay that much, and you just coast into a set program with mindless texts. As a newbie, why take on the added stress? Keep the whopping '500K signing bonus' (read 40 bucks a month for a year), and up the pay.
Can vacation days be taken consecutively? You should be able to. If so, then you could work a few days into your last month and take the remainder off for a vacation. Anyone tried that?
It's your call OP, but I remain firm in my conviction that all hakwons suck. |

Contact hours are ideally set at 24-26 per week. They have gone as low as 21. Right now, because of all this regulation bull, they are around 26-27. There's not much out there to hire right now.
It's not difficult to develop lessons when you take advantage of all the resources the school has, as well as teacher's manuals.
I PREFER having control over my lessons, instead of being a drone. If the newbie wants to be a drone, he has the option of following a set curriculum.
The newbies are given training. There are optional teaching seminars monthly.
The pay isn't being increased because it costs money to run the organization the way this one is run. People who work there renew because they like the overall package.
And, yes, people (I) have attached my vacation to my last month.
How is it better at a public school? Do tell. |
