|
|
So I just realized I made a mistake several months ago when I was booking my ticket home. I was told that my last day would be February 28, so I booked my flight home for March 4. Now I look back at my contract and it finishes on March 3. I'm trying to figure out when I should reschdule my flight for. My boss says he can't pay me for another 2 weeks which I said was unacceptable. I guess I should stay another 3 weeks in the event that I have to wait even longer.
What do you think is a good rule for planning your flight home after a contract ends? Wait a week, 10 days, always have an open return-flight ticket, or what? Getting your final pay and wrapping up your affairs seems like a crucial matter that is an issue again and again for most academy teachers. |

No one can give you salient advice without knowing the facts. You can extend your Period of Sojourn online or by visiting your Immigration branch. When does your period of sojourn (date on your ARC) expire? |

Most people go home the day after their last teaching day...when you book depends partly on whether you think you'll be paid in a timely manner. I asked my boss to pay into my bank account the day before my last day so I'd have a chance to do some banking transactions, and she did.
I'm a little confused by why you think your boss should pay you after the contract is finished? His obligation to you, and yours to him, ends on the last day of the contract. Why is it "unacceptable?" |

If you stay longer than the date on your ARC, you run the risk of getting fined at the airport when you leave.
Go to immigration with evidence of your flight booking, fill out the application for extension of visa (it's free), say the extension is for personal travel in Korea after your contract finishes and all should be well and legal. |

I had to cancel my ticket. Now I have to pay a hundred bucks to reschedule a flight on that same ticket if it's even possible. My boss told me I have to work until the end of this week to accomodate him, and the flight is my problem. I won't be paid for a few weeks. I'm a little biter. |

You're getting screwed. If you're working past the end date of your contract, demand an amended contract. If they won't give you one, don't work.
Also, and this is very important, what is the expiration date on your ARC? |

Mr. 이,
You should know better. It makes no difference when your visa expires, nor when your ARC expires, the second that your contract expires, in the eyes of immigration, everthing has expired and if you are still in Korea the day after your contract expires, they will come and get you. I know. I had this happen to me. My contract expired a week before my Visa, the next day immigration made me leave the country. I had to go to Japan to get a tourist visa for Korea, so I could then go back to Korea just to go back to Japan again to get a new Visa. |

This is just plain wrong. The only thing that does matter is when your ARC expires. That is the only date immigration cares about.

I have a letter from immigration that says I must leave by the 13th. That is the day on my ARC, and I plan to travel to Japan before that time. I'm not gonna stress immi. DrCrazy, you're crazy! |

To the op, I don't went to add to your stresses BUT it sounds like you will get royally screwed!! Not getting paid for a number of weeks after your contract ends is a big red light. Get your dosh before you leave or you will in the long run take it up the Gary Glitter. |
