| Word is that RP has had to spend time at home these past couple of weeks shoring up his House seat. Not good news for the tidal wave crowd. |

*feeling giddy*
Would it be too much to ask that both Kucinich and Paul get thrown out of the presidential race and lose their own seats in the House at the same time? |

| Now, now. We mustn't be greedy. But losing a House seat could free him up to run for prez this summer. |

For the first time in quite a while CNN mentioned him the other day.
Pegged him *cough* "officially" as running at 8%. |

Representative Ron Paul has won his first Republican primary of the 2008 season, The Associated Press projects. Though his Internet groundswell did not translate into a nomination for the presidency, he easily held back a challenger for his Congressional seat in Texass 14th Congressional District. With 56 percent of precincts reporting so far, Mr. Paul has 69.4 percent of the vote, while Chris Peden has 30.6 percent.
Some Washington insiders would have you believe that Republicans no longer believe in the principles our country and party were founded upon, but the voters in my district have once again proven them wrong, Mr. Paul said, in a statement. The message of freedom is popular, and I will continue to trumpet it in Congress and across America as I fight on behalf of the conservative, common sense values which made our country so great.
Update | 1:30 a.m.
Representative Dennis J. Kucinich, a former presidential candidate, has managed to hold off his four challengers in the Democratic primary for his seat in Ohio, including a former ally in the anti-war movement. The A.P. is projecting his victory with 42 percent of the precincts reporting. Mr. Kucinich has taken 51.9 percent. His closest opponent, Joe Climperman, has 33.1 percent. Incidentally, that former ally, Rosemary Palmer, who was the first to challenge Mr. Kucinich, is running in last place with only 3.6 percent of the vote at this posting. |

I am moderately disappointed in this. If he had lost, he could run a third party campaign and we could continue our mocking. As it is, McCain is the nominee and RP has lost his national stage. To paraphrase one of my all-time least favorite politicians: We won't have RP to kick around anymore.
<<sigh>> The end of an era. |

You're being extremely charitable to call someone who managed only 11% at his best a 'candidate'. That's a whole lot like calling someone who pays a vanity press to publish a book an author. |

When you say 11, I assume you mean 25?

If you're going to talk about him this much, at least pay attention. |

"Officially" 11% at best.

Yeah, sure. Your desire to mock the most anti-war candidate says much more about you than it does he.
As I said before, many Americans (and others, of course) have a very difficult time dealing with ideas that fall out of very narrow goalpost of acceptable discourse.
Paul never had a chance. The wars will continue, the war on drugs will continue, the big government big business orgy will continue but you won't be bothered by those pesky internet types any more. Glad you've got your priorities! |

Texas has the LBJ law. It was passed to allow Lyndon Johnson to run for VP as Kennedy's runningmate, which he expected to lose, and still run for his Senate seat, which he expected he couldn't lose.
So, Ron Paul could run for his seat in the house where he got 70% in the primary and still run for President.
According to some other news reports, Ron Paul and former congressman Bob Barr are set to meet soon to discuss just such a 3rd party/independent campaign. So, we'll see. |
